I really appreciate how you call it the "eye line" rather than the "horizon line". I think that makes the concepts much more clear and intuitive.

Thank you, thank you, after watching I don´t know how many videos, I can finally say I understand what perspective is. Not only that, I can also find the vanishing point and the eye level line. You are a great artist and teacher.

Thanks for such an enthusiastic comment Laura. It’s very encouraging in what I’m doing. Have fun with perspective. 😀

thank you for the free lessons sir.. you're really generous with your knowledges. I think it's really hard (for me) to angle lines when the vanishing point is out of the paper especially when I make lines without a ruler or something and my lines are still not really straight either 😅. so what practice or drills do I have to do to solve this problem?. And I really appreciate if you continue to share your knowledges more about perspectives 😁.
@stephentraversart3 жыл бұрын
If the vanishing points are a long way off the page, it is not as obvious if your lines are not exact. Close enough is often good enough. Keep working at it. It will get easier to see and understand.
@hanka39303 жыл бұрын
@@stephentraversart thanks, I will keep practicing making those lines 👌

Hi: Thank you so very much for these lessons. I began my art journey during lockdown and have continued and I love it. But I have struggled with perspective and had nearly given up when I found your site. I am actually understanding now and will practice until it becomes second nature. At the moment my head is spinning with all this information - VERY clearly presented and explained, which often it is not. I sincerely appreciate all the time it takes for you to share your wisdom and help us to keep going. It is wonderful artists like yourself who saved me during the pandemic. And very possibly my husband as well. LOL. Good luck to you and I will be replaying these videos many times.

Thanks Judi. It’s a real privilege to be able to inspire others in their drawing drawing. I appreciate your telling me. My latest video is also on perspective if you’re interested. In fact, I have a perspective playlist where they are all together. All the best for you and your husband. 😀

I'm not sure I know what you mean David. Which building are you talking about? Do you mean the shadow on the ground, or shade on the side of the building?

Thanks Doris. Yes, photos are 2D to 2D when we draw them, but in life it’s 3D to 2D, which is harder in a number of ways. It will come with practice though. All the best. 😀

And do you think it's ok for a beginner to take a picture on location and maybe even put a grid on it to see the lines? Or would you say this is cheating? I think even a viewfinder might help...
@stephentraversart Жыл бұрын
Not at all. I use a 4x4 grid on my Instagram drawings. I’ve made a few videos on that process. But I’m enjoying drawing mostly freehand these days. However, if you want to learn to draw freehand, the grid will not really help you develop that. We need to practice what we want to be able to do. All the best. 😀

@@stephentraversart it's just that I still have problems on location seeing if a line goes up or down... Or I need to make myself clear that lines above my eye-line should go down on a building from top corner.
@stephentraversart Жыл бұрын
I measure angles on location by holding my pen up in front of me and bringing it straight down onto the paper. Have you tried that? It’s remarkably accurate. 😀
