Basic Roundabouts Explained | Driving Tutorial

Roundabouts and roundabout driving rules in the UK have many layers so we have a few videos with 'Basic Roundabouts' being the beginners introduction to roundabouts.
In this video we'll be looking at using signals on roundabouts, approaching roundabouts, who has priority at roundabouts and following road signs, sat-nav or verbal directions... whether in your driving lessons or on your driving test.
Key things to learn for roundabouts are how to indicate and where to position yourself taking into account the direction you are going in and the roundabout exit number. eg turning right at roundabout which would most commonly be the 3rd exit.

@@GetDriving At 1:28 my instructor told me upon approach if the exit is past 12 'oclock then you can signal right upon approach and then change the signal to left after you pass the second exit. But he doesn't say that here....

Thanks so much i was used to my instructor saying "right, 3rd exit" for a basic roundabout, so when he said "right, 2nd exit" at another one it completely threw me off! The clock description helped so much!

Roundabouts are a lot like the older-style fairground waltzer's, your head is spinning in all directions and you end up feeling dizzy! I know the theory of it but I can't get it in practice. I can't seem to look left AND signal AND control the steering wheel all at the same time for anything other than a simple 1st exit. I can imagine I'll be replying this video many times. Thanks again for sharing your expertise. The videos you do are so insightful.

Noooo look right lol!! Theres a saying i love; don't drive faster than you can think! If there's a situation you can't think far enough ahead on sloooooow down. Like slow it RIGHT down, don't worry about other cars and find a really calm (not busy) roundabout

Ahh Gotit. Try saying mirror signal move. Like a pom or mspsl routine. Everytime you're gonna exit a roundabout it's mirror signal move. Say it out loud so it goes into your head and becomes a routine! Same as pulling over or changing lanes!... Mirror signal move!

Wonderfully explained thank you so much it was crystal clear. I have a doubt, while taking the 3rd exit right I see a vehicle was approaching the roundabout and it stopped(near 8:14 of this video), suppose if it didn’t stop and I’m taking the exit at left after signal mirror manoeuvre routine at the practical test either I have to stop the car as he/she didn’t notice or should I push hard? What will happen if this happens on practical test?

Thank you so much, my exam is coming and roundabouts is where i struggle the most, specially if the roundabout is not the typical with 1,2,3 exits and has different layouts, is hard to understand which signal to use. Also a question, if we are in a Mini Roundabout and there is only one exit ahead, and one exit to our right, should I approach it with a left signal? Since im going ahead i shouldnt have to signal on approach, right? Thank you!! :)
