Excellent presentation. I think it would be even more beneficial if you illustrated what you are saying with simple paintings. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I am a big fan of MIchael o'toole paintings...and I just learned you were his inspiration and instructor. Excellent video. I wish I had a chance to take lessons from you.

Thanks! Made me chuckle when you mentioned saving the bright colours for the foreground. I immediately thought of your bright red mountain tops from a bit ago 🙂 I guess rules are made to be broken 😂

Exactly. You start with the rules and then have fun breaking them.

Many people think a genius is someone who just knows how to do something really well but actually a genius is someone who masters all the rules of their job/topic/subject then liberates themselves from the rules and creates their own 🙂

Great tips. If I am not mistaken, that painting on the left is Lake Louis in Banff?? Sure looks like it to me. Been there many times, and did the tee house hike, or should I say challenge lol. Cheers

Hey Mike, I really like your channel. I have been painting for nearly 10 years and I am going to start taking it outdoors... so I have come to watch your videos to get me started. Also I wanted to let you know that your link in your description is missing an s so it doesn't take us to the site. Thanks for making these videos!

What about aspect ratio? The two landscapes hanging behind you during your presentation were quite different in that respect.

As a beginner I would add color values in the distance are lighter, intensity is less and cool colors are behind warm colors

Ya I thought that’s where that was too. Pretty unmistakable setting. I have been up to the tea house several times and the view of the glacier is spectacular. It sure is a workout lol.
