Great video Kevin. I think as new artists we over think everything. Basically some brushes make things easier but you can pretty much use most brushes to do the same thing except for fine details where you need a very fine thin brush. Paul Roberts Kevin paints in oil, which acts differently than acrylic, mainly in dry time. There’s additives you can add to reduce that, but it still doesn’t behave the same. Like that grass for instance, I could never do that in my acrylic pieces. I wish I could! But by the time you laid out all of your colors, the paint would be dry when you’re ready to fan brush it up.
@Saffirance5 жыл бұрын
I'm an acrylic artist. Definitely a great medium to start with. The key to making great acrylic paintings is to understand that your first coat of paint will be the ugly phase please don't give up there and just say you're not good at painting. That coat is what we call an underpainting where you just get the basic colors and shapes down. The more layers of paint you put on your painting the better it will look. You don't need to start with expensive paints. I use craft acrylic paint and as long as you put a gloss varnish on when you are finished you will never be able to tell it wasn't the expensive stuff. I love the look of oil paints but I make my acrylic paintings look like oils in the end by using the thinner craft paint and building layers. I suggest you work on canvas rather than paper. It will be easier to make it look good. I wirk on paper at times and it just takes a lot more layers as the paper soaks up a lot of water. If you choose paper do a layer of gesso mixed with gel medium first. You'll have a better surface that way. Acrylic is so forgiving. If you mess up you can just paint over the mistakes. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
@rosekay65705 жыл бұрын
@@LostInParadise8706 If you use a better quality paint, heavy body paint, your colors won't dry that fast. You can also use some flotrol that slows down the drying to be able to blend in a timely manner. But you're correct, it would dry with a cheap thin student paint like Apple Barrel.

I answer you, because KZbinrs, when they exceed a certain number of subscribers do not answer comments, they believe that they are great stars, they know a lot about their profession but still have a lot to learn from the true stars. Real true stars are real above of all because they never lose their humility. But, returning to your question, the answer is NO, with acrylics the smooth mixture of colours is very difficult, it is not as "easy" as with oil (the blend to achieve fog for example), but acrylic has other advantages of course, although not many. Greetings

it’s It’s a real honour if someone especially a friend wants to have one of your paintings on their wall. I found that they tend to look for paintings which match the colour of their room. I was really surprised when a friend took a shine to my very first mountain scene painting. It was very basic and a bit bare. But somehow worked well in a frame. So chaps it’s the viewer who REALLY judges your work not you.

Well, when I see some modern paintings which are a few splats and splices and dots and flick on the canvas and they are judged professionally to be almost perfect and worth thousands. Humm, I say to myself well at least my paintings look like something you’d recognise. I never understood why a heel of bricks was worth thousands, WHAT? I thought the artist meant that the bricks was a symbol of mankind’s evolved modern living. If you’d call some movies art. I watched How The West Was Won recently and although I feels it’s a brilliant movie, especially James Stewart playing Mr Rawlings went to see the Varmint, ha-ha. But after being sooo beautiful show the wilderness it’s peoples and animals over a few generations. They decided to end with a flyby over a huge motorway into a concrete city saying we’ll look at human progress isn’t it brilliant. No, actually it looks like a symbol of humans pollution and inconsiderate use of our earth. I don’t know but may be art that says something about how you feel and try’s to carry a message of some kind to the viewers are best. I love Stubbs paintings, celebrating the form of animals and OK mans manipulation of the breeds, I love Turner and Capability Brown. Having lived near Gibside one of Turners brilliant subjects helped of course. Art isn’t meant to be perfect, or why not just take a photograph. I’m struggling with techniques like all beginners, trying to find my style. Being a TAurean I have to tell myself not to be serious about stuff. And just let me enjoy painting something I like.
