@danielrinckey59358 жыл бұрын
as a sav breeder I approve this video XD. But seriously, this is definitely one of the better videos on savs. only few things I can say off the top of my head are that you will eventually want 3 heat lights, and to use preferably flood lights (it looked like you were using incandescent, hard to tell on my phone) and also it looks like you might want to add more sand to to strain some of the clumps out of the substrate, it seems like it's a bit chunky if that makes sense.
@tarkelson8 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment, I recently switched to floods, also the top layer of dirt was put in like 30 mins before the vid, its all smooth now. About 1/3 of the substrate is sand

I learned a lot from your video. I just got a baby Savannah and have been worried about the right environment for it. Bit i see I was going in the right direction. So o basically did what you was saying about the top soil and bugs plus making sure enough humidity and heat. So great video. Thanks.

Great habitat, only thing you could optimize is covering the basking spot with a ceramic tile which holds the heat better

Wow. Good video, even as a person that already owns reptiles i learned a lot of shit lol. Never even thought of putting bugs in the soil, might try that with my pacman frog. Do you think night crawlers would be a good addition? I can get those from the petstore so i don't have to worry about any chemicals :)
@tarkelson8 жыл бұрын
Haha i love that I taught you something, its my dream to educate with reptiles. I wouldnt reccomend things such as springtails with pacman frogs as I have hear they stress them out. Nightcrawlers would prob be a good addition to your pacman but you sould make the soil about 6 or 7 inches deep with organic topsoil so the worms actually have something to eat. Your pacman will probably eat them anyways so I also reccomend just replacing the substrate once a month or so. and sorry o missed your comment for so long. I buy my nightcrawlers from walmart and many experienced owners have for years so do that its a lot cheaper.

Tony Badini Reptiles thrive on a day and night cycle. Ceramic heat lamps that give no light you can leave on, but other light should go off at night. It's easy to turn on the light when you wake up, and turn it off when you go to sleep.

@jimmieparker80935 жыл бұрын
It's not that they get scared but if the cage is huge with lots of hiding they usually become harder to socialize....mine is only just barely 3 feet...I had him in a 6 by 4 custom set up....he was calm before now he hisses and puffs at me ....point is if yue enclosure is to big for a baby he will always hide never see u and never get used to u.....that's not a wives tale its true.....

@timphillips99543 жыл бұрын
So this guy is right and NERD is wrong lol! Now I understand. Just about every young reptile, mammal or even fish thrive in a relatively small space but savannah's are the exception to the rule. As a general rule is anyone who says I am right and I'm certain I'm right is WRONG.
@ChronusFatherofAll11 ай бұрын
It's not that simple. They need the space, my 8 month old male Sav is well over 2 feet. You can put them in a small tank as hatchlings but you cannot keep this species there. The majority of this creatures growth occurs in the first year despite not maturing sexually until 3. You simply don't have time for a small enclosure, my dudes in a 5×3 and hes at this rate he will outgrow it in a couple more months. So many people put them in 40 gals and are still asking when they will grow the following year, legit stunting them from the rip.

hi can u tell me how u built your cage and the materials. im planning on getting a baby
@tarkelson7 жыл бұрын
Legendary Lamb you're going to want the full size enclosure for the baby so you need to build the 8x4. There are videos on KZbin, materials are plywood, and 2x4s, you'll also want to think if you want sliding doors or an opening window

@steelwarrior1057 жыл бұрын
DarlaGaming it will decompose, eventually... most plywood/particle board can be left out in a field for 5 to ten years before falling apart. I've made my fair share of hunting blinds so I see plywood/particle board a lot.

About the tank; a local breeder (who doesn't sell terrariums) said that a full grown sav just needs a 4x2. However, it was at a convention, so he might have thought I was talking about a beardie. But is this information correct?
