Where do you usually put your Balfour retractor? I don't see one in this tray, but if you had one.

Not all trays have Balfour. I've never seen one use it but some trays have it and i just leave it in the tray.

@@SURGICALTECHGEEK Oh good, I've been annoyed with it during set up because there really isn't room for it. I'm in my first semester and really struggling with the skills part of the program, but I'm doing perfectly with the bookwork. Do you have any tips? I feel like I'm behind everybody else.

@@MH-gj1rp I always think of it as if it's MY table, my set up. I should know every single instruments in there and where they're placed at. You control where things go. Organization is key to others but I work by efficiency. That's a skill that will develop overtime but for now, practice your sterile technique and per procedure case basis.

I guess I'm the only 1 wonder how are u holding the camera to recored if you're gowned and gloved?

I am assuming as she now touched the phone and held it to record her final set up, she won’t be going back to the surgical field until she scrubs back in

@@SURGICALTECHGEEK Well, we are learning basic and minor setup. As well as an exploratory laparotomy setup and instruments. We just learned how to pass/load scalpels, sutures, ties, etc. On that ring stand… I don’t even know what that was you opened. That’s why I’m nervous and why do we have to open so many gowns and gloves? I guess my fear is … will the surgeon/ our mentor judge us during clinicals because we don’t know certain things immediately? In my program we are just teaching ourselves and I feel so unprepared

@@SleekSpacesLiving all our cases need a basin pack, it has all the laps, bovie, basically a custom basin with almost everything in them so that if there's a stat no need to open a lot of things. Your school might not have it. We open a lot of gowns because I have to account for the surgeon, his assist, his resident and me. Thats 4. If it's a dirty case you'd need x2 of everyone because we all have to change. Don't worry! I will teach you and i will show you! What do you want to see?

@@SURGICALTECHGEEK God bless you! I’m eagerly waiting to get your pocket book. I went to the site and it appears to be sold out. Congratulations!! 🥰 I’m ready to see anything and everything teacher 🙌🏽. Ooooo.. how to pass a loaded suture. For some reason I cannot grasp it. Oh and when do we do our first introperative count and final count. When the surgeon says he’s about to irrigate and about to close? For sutures we only know how to do right hand surgeon but, bc your video I know how to do a lefty but I can’t practice it 😂

@@SleekSpacesLiving yes I'm so sorry! It was sold out in 3 days!!!! Couldn't believe it! But no worries I have a restock coming before August so I got you. I will jot down your questions! I will make another q&a because I'm sure others would like to know as well and that suture video i did, both demonstrates right and left lol. I got ripped a new ahole when this very strict obgyne surgeon was a lefty and NO ONE freakin told me! And thank God I knew how! Life saving technique right there that no one teaches you! Trust me, you're not the only one! I received a ton of msgs from students experiencing the same thing but I assure you, I will help you! I'm always on KZbin so you can always catch me! I wish you the best my friend.

Overall a very good video for surg tech students...except for the untied back of the sterile gown after she scrubs in and starts setting up. That might be acceptable in an emergency trauma, if then. It's a debridement, for God sake! She couldn't wait 3 minutes for her circulator?!
@SURGICALTECHGEEK
@SURGICALTECHGEEK 2 жыл бұрын
No I couldn't Melanie. I'm not going to drag my circulator out of pre op to tie my gown when she's in the middle of talking to the patient. I'm not going to question my charge nurse if she tells me that she's sending my patient while I set up bec debridement is an easy case and it only involves only soft counts, takes 30 seconds to do. When the patient comes i have to break scrub to help position the patient to the side. We were on call and theres no one that can help. You may think that tying my gown is a priority but in reality hospital patient turn over is. That's the reality that I teach in my content. Things like this happen and if you're a surg tech that's been in the field, you should know this.
@shaymus099
@shaymus099 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the back of the gown is unsterile, the gown can still be kept held up while it's not tied until someone is able to tie it. As long as you are able to keep the back part of the gown not touching or turning your back to the field, then you should be fine for a few minutes.

I have been doing this for 11 years and yes, a lot of times we do this. You're not always going to have someone in the room to tie you when you have to open and set up your bt. Always remember, a lot of this job is being a team player while being self-reliant.
