Holy hell, my left hand needs some serious work. Great video!

Thanks for demoing this brother, I watch this video twice almost always. First time, I pay all the attention to the thumb(yep, it ain't moving and that is the beauty isn't it?), and the second time I pay all the attention to the rest of the fingers. Thanks!

Hey Jason, love this video, I wanted to ask how long it took to get upto the speed your at?
@jasonfurmandrummer11 жыл бұрын
@Jevron It has been a process over many years, but to go from the beginning to this speed would probably be 6months to a year with daily practice. That means getting to your top tempo while feeling relaxed.

hi jason. ı am percussionist and ı like your videos a lot. ı think everbody had to have this technique. before ı learn that, ı cant control the stick. it is like going away from my hand. so ıt helps a lot. but on left hand ı cant managed. ı am wondering do you use your thumb to take rebound with index finger. ıf you dont, ı will think right hand more powerful than left hand so left must work more

Great video! It seems as though this will work well for me being that my right ring finger is going to be fully amputated! Is this grip technique difficult to learn?
@curtpriestley21075 жыл бұрын
Yes but when do you turn your wrists over? I don't want to play thumb up
@jasonfurmandrummer5 жыл бұрын
Curt Priestley You turn it over when you’re playing regularly. This is just to isolate and build finger strength and dexterity.

I am confused. Some of the video and books show the match grip with the palm facing down so what should I use for practicing as a beginner?
@DrumminJoe6 жыл бұрын
I'm working on this. Still in the beginning stages. My problem is turning my left hand from french grip to american grip. With my hand in american grip, it just isn't working. Any suggestions?

I will have to say that I have short index fingers (genetic) where my fingers are like an inch below my middle finger, if that makes any sense. I've been practicing the finger technique only using the middle, ring and pinky. I'm wondering is it possible for me to master this technique?

hello. I have a severely damaged right wrist and I need to learn a technique that will allow me to play nice fast 16th notes on my hi hats ... Would this technique work??? how fast can you get with this without it causing wrist movement beyond my capabilities .. I have around 30% normal motion and about the same amount amount of my original strength
@PaniqFoxx8 жыл бұрын
the problem with finger technique on hi hats is that they dont give much rebound.
@prateekyadav98117 жыл бұрын
But how does one use the finger technique in matched grip? I mean, we practiced using french grip so how would that translate to matched grip?Thing is, I am a beginner and am at a loss as to how can the fingers be utilised in matched grip anatomically speaking?
@jasonfurmandrummer7 жыл бұрын
Prateek Yadav as you turn your palms flat to play you can work on still isolating the finger, but what this is really for is making your general strokes a constant combination of finger and wrist not really either exclusively.
@prateekyadav98117 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. Hmm, yeah I understand that neither grip uses fingers or the wrist exclusively. But how exactly are the fingers incorporated in german grip? Could you please make a vid demonstrating this? Having said this, today, I realised thaty difficulty in using fingers in german tech could be because I wasn't holding the stick in line with the arm. Once I made the adjustment I could notice the fingers taking a better position to pull the stick. Gotta practice now to see the rest. Have a good day:D
@scottswift81537 жыл бұрын
Prateek Yadav it takes time practice it in the air with the stick pointing to the roof. It takes a few months of doing it 20 30 min 4 5 times a week before youll have the mechanics down.
