I started with scale cars, but became disillusioned because of my skill level. I'm starting over again, and finding the love of just creating and have discovered Final Faction toys. Stumbled upon this video & thanks for all the great tips! I’ve always loved model building but I really enjoy diorama along with the model. Than recently gotten heavily into 1/6 scale custom and kit bashing which although not that much cheaper than buying say a new Hot Toys, but it’s sure a hell of a lot more satisfying to know you made it. Recently made a Shane from The walking dead as it surprisingly was never created in 1/6 form. Also can totally relate to saving random objects lol I have a whole bin of caps, wires and small plastic objects…or “greeblies” as some say. Anyway Thanks for the vid and happy building to you sir!

I agree, I love Adam Savage's thoughts. Start with a cheaper one to see how much you use it then if you find yourself using it a ton but a nice one. I love tools and have found myself running out and buying the most expensive tool out there and in the end not using it that much... 😂

I've found that X-acto Z-11 blades are surprisingly affordable at Hobby Lobby :) For small gaps, I use non-shrinking spackling ( also works OK for very small terrain sculpting when I do not want to use a paper mache base ).

Great video for beginners. I always used 2x paints to prime my models, but recently came across a video on why not to use them. I have gone over to Mr Hobby and Tamiya primers. More money, but I don’t get any reactions with the paint going over them. I started collecting greivelies a while ago and my wife hates me keeping the “junk” that goes in the re-cycling. Also, I don’t throw out any cables, I use them for power cords and stripping them for the wires inside the outer sheath.
@DRToysCreations

Awesome same here on the wires. You'll have to send me the link to why not to use the 2X paint because sometimes they give me trouble with drying. Thanks.

Thanks for this....I'm especially interested in the 'glues' bit. I don't really model but am into RC and one facet is scale building/body modification - problem I've found is using stuff like Tamiya Cement or Tamiya putty is great for the short term but doesnt really hold up in our mixed seasonal British weather (so raining and cold one minute, hot and sunny the next!) I've started mixing the tamiya cement with hot glue to see if that helps and on certain shells (so lexan) it does help stick accessories to shells as I can feel the heat generated from the mix giving the indication that its all bonding and the chemicals are reacting. I'm a bit unsure of using baking soda, even if mixed with glue...I know in Sri Lanka (where my family is from) they make kites out of tissue paper (rice pape?) and v thin strips of bamboo which are all held together with string and a water/flour mix for the glue. But just dont think anything like baking soda or flour will hold up out doors when running in puddles/deep water etc. That said you've suggested some great products and alternatives to ones I'm currently experimenting with so many thanks for that. Def looking forward to trying these out. 😊👍

Glad to help. Yeah, most of my stuff just sits on a shelf so you may be right, the baking soda and glue may not hold up. But you have a ton of cool ideas with other materials! Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it!

Not going to lie, I've been watching your videos for a couple of days now and every time to mentioned Nuln Oil I ligitamatly thought you were saying Gnome Oil. I thought it was called that as another name for Drawf cause dwarves are sometimes known to live in underground cities and run smithies and such and thus would be covered in soot and other grime, so to me it maid sence because it was a wash used to make things look grimy. 🤣

@DRToysCreations
@DRToysCreations 2 жыл бұрын
So i have found gorilla glue to kinda foam and expand. That being said I know they have different types now so they may have something that's not as aggressive. 😀 The BSI Insta-Cure also come in thin and heavy. I just use the medium because I have found it to be a nice all purpose glue. It doesn't always work for everything but it gets me there 95% of the time If you have success with the gorilla glue I would love to know. Thanks.
