An infantry squad is like a basketball or soccer team. Even if the enemy knows their textbook plays, each squad can still modify these internally as needed. Each squad makes its own internal adaptations of the basic infantry formations and drills but can adapt to the other squads because they are all following the same basic procedures. If squad members don't practice their combat drills until they know them individually and automatically, they will make mistakes and mess it up for the other squad members.
