The messkit you are using there is a Swedish M40, made of stainless steel during WW2. You can pour safely by hooking the end of the bail hook though the strap loop on the side of the pot. Take the bail handle by the sides and pour, the hook will lift the pot up and everything stays under control.

You need an army jack-knife, with the thing to remove stones from horses hooves (a marlin spike). Jab one big hole , then one small hole into the tin of condensed milk. This aids pouring and reduces waste through spillage. Plus, your Swedish M44 pot will form a handle with the bail-hook, moving to the second position on the bail arm, then engaging the strap-loop. This will help steady the cooking pot when pouring.

I often wonder how soldiers kept going during war. To see some of the videos on youtube brings so many emotions to the fore. To think of what they all suffered and how their lives must have been. I cannot imagine camping year round in my own back garden never mind the elements, the hunger and thirst, lack of real sleep and basic hygiene. A cup of tetleys would pick me up but not enough for all they endured.
