Just what you showed right there was worth its weight in gold, at least to me it was. I just found your channel a few minutes ago and it has made my day. Thank you and your grandson for going to the trouble of making this video.

That was great for a first tutorial video. It’s so important for the older generations to pass on their skills to the next. If only our ancient ancestors had KZbin. Well done making this.

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Those who can do and can teach, make the most epic and eye opening “KZbins” on KZbin. I can’t believe that I’ve watched 1000s of how-to carving videos recently and yours was the only one that really turned on that lightbulb in my mind. I simply can’t thank you enough. Start to finish this video was exactly what I needed. Perfect! 💕

You don't need to "get better at this youtube". You did great just being you and sharing your awesome skill. So much is preserved now with this technology that used to be lost to the ages through the generosity of amazing craftsmen like yourself. May we never see some "polished", KZbin version of you but rather, you, just as you are. Thanks so much.

I am an absolute beginner, tried this as my first carving and wow. Roger really makes it look simple. Truly a master of his craft. Not easy at all. I suppose when you've been carving since 72 it's simple and easy to whip up something that nice looking. Sharp knives + great skill. After trying this myself I have even more respect for his skill.

I’m so glad I lucked into your channel by watching Doug Linker. Being a grandfather myself and with failing health I need a hobby I can sit and enjoy. I have a full machine shop which sits silent most days so the things I’m learning from Doug and you will occupy my mind as I can’t just sit and relax; I am happy doing something. Happily I lucked into your first video and I see you have many more, so a subscribe and a binge watch is in order. Thanks from Australia mate. 👍🇦🇺

Great stuff Mr. Stegall. You might consider a video showing how the angles of the V tools change the cuts. Coupled with undercut and creating shadow to enhance your carvings. Just an idea from a new, old beginner carver. Thank you for sharing you art, it's beautiful.
