I truly appreciate your videos. I'm a noobie. I've only been carving, or learning to carve for maybe a year. I'm not very good yet, but I keep practicing. With that said, I have watched countless videos on how to carve an eye. I have been struggling with them. However, after watching your video it became much more clear. Your expectations on why you make a particular cut and how answered all of my questions. I love your channel. I look forward to watching you more and more. By the way, we where could I catch a class?

Hey just curious... On the Wood where u carved the face and the eye it looks like the surface of the Entire block in that area has been shaved over(Whittle Marks maybe from a Knife?) . Am I just seeing it weird thru the video or do u shave off a layer from the block before u begin carving?

Great video keep making them , my last name is Stegall I live in Mississippi
@kathystegall25055 жыл бұрын
I bet we're related. My Stegall roots are from Jeremiah Green from Pontotoc Mississippi. My father grew up there before they moved to Arkansas. Do you do much woodcarving?
@johnstegall81815 жыл бұрын
Yes I do caricature wood carving and some walking sticks. I live in Pontotoc Ms my grandfathers name was Thomas Stegall , my fathers name was Lenard Stegall .I have a Stegall history book and have traced my family back to Jeremiah Stegall. When I was a kid I can remember visiting relatives in Arkansas but can’t remember who they were

Can you please name the knives in your series? And size ? Example detail, chip, in 2 inches long etc...#1-5 such as one is a up sweep knife, etc. As attaining a helvie knife is impossible and their site is down, so I'll try to get flexcut instead

Why do carvers show how to carve eyes on the corners of the wood? When I carve a face there is not a corner beside the nose.
@rogerstegall61173 жыл бұрын
It's just a presentation thing when you gouge the eye out It's flat I think it looks better than carving it on a flat surface.

A nice video,but why are most eye videos showing you how to do them on corners?..most carvings are required to do eyes on flat wood.
@carolleavy88855 жыл бұрын
Even when carving an eye on flat wood, you need to develop an angle. It may be a very shallow angle but it should be there. The bridge of the nose is higher than the eye. Remember, the inner corner of the eye should not be visible from the side. Roger is a great teacher, catch a class from him if you can.
