Basically a Golf R Dakar | 2024 Volkswagen T-ROC R Review 4K

Is the Golf R too low to the ground for you? Well you could buy a Volkswagen T-ROC R. It's a little less powerful, but it's essentially a lifted Golf R. You get AWD, you get Terrain Modes, you get Launch Control and the same engine found in the Golf R.
The T-ROC R is one of those few cars that can ace a track day and comfortably drive across some unsealed roads immediately after.

Are they even still making the Kona N (Hyundai rep told me a while ago it may not come back). Cupra Formentor VZx the obvious comparison . The Cupra is a little heavier but a little more power from the the same engine, so sort of evens out. The Cupra has a few more features and rear passenger and boot space is better. I compared the Kona N , T Roc R and the VZx a couple of years ago and felt the Cupra was best value and the extra space tipped it in favour for me. But all good options, all were fun .

To me, I felt the Cupra was somewhere between this and the Tigaun, but absolutely forgot to make a mention of it in this vid. No more Kona N's (as of now) too

Cupra Formentor VZx is the better VAG "performance" SUV. Same platform different body and subjectively a better drive with more interesting styling, although T-Roc R has a claimed 150 kg weight advantage over the Cupra and only a minor weight penalty compared to Golf R.

I kinda agree. Prefer the seating position in the Formentor and the long bonnet design too.

Cars are getting more expensive and not by a small percentage and for the performance that they have to offer it’s not justified. And unfortunately it’s a VW and they do have an unfortunate reputation to deal with. Great review as always cheers from SA 🇦🇺

Appreciate the support! To be honest, the performance offered isn’t too bad for the price (versus what else is on offer in this segment). But yes, VW’s reliability reputation should always be a focus.
