Id like a little longer format where you cover more do and donts in the same video, it would be easier to watch i'd say. Thanks for the quality content as always

After rewatching, I think the main issue is that the cross drive shown here is going quite slow and upwards because the player is taking it late. thus the key idea here should be that it is bad to drive upwards towards where the front player is standing and I would argue its okay if you drive it downwards and maybe questionable if you can drive it flat.

I agree. The cross drive, if it goes downwards can be a good shot.. but it’s such a fine balance. The chance of playing the cross one with “bad” quality is often higher than be able to play it perfectly. Definitely a trade off on the court to make ☺️

In this situation it's when the front court player rotates out wide. After a high lift into one corner, they front court player usually stands a lot more to the same side as his partner, right? So maybe that would be a good opportunity for a cross court drive. Also in the same situation, what would be a good shot for the backcourt player? A smash is very fast and if countered to the other side, not reachable for the backcourt player in time. I feel like a half smash leaves an opponent a lot time to perfectly place his shot to the other corner with a perfect height. Of course there is the pro, that this also leaves the attacker with more time. What are your thoughts?

It’s so difficult to say with a clear answer, the correct answer is “it depends”. Yes if the front player has not moved a bit to the side, you may be able to do the cross-court drive, but it’s risky as it needs the right speed and precision. As the base player, I think variation is key. The hard smashes are important, so is the half smashes, think of placement and variation here is the key - that will keep the opponent keep guessing ☺️

@@Basicfeather Thank you, I will try to place my smashes more randomly left, right, up and down :) Maybe one just right to the racket side hip and one just left. That will keep them guessing using forehand or backhand. Then another one to the chest, if they think everything is coming steep. All sounds like good variations to me 😄

Doesn't this just mean, don't drive to the middle?

In that specific situation, yes be mindful og the shots going through the middel. If so, as mentioned in the video, it must pass the front players with a higher lift ☺️
