They can be left in these pots for upwards of two years. However, the soil will break down so you have to watch the health of the tree because you might need to repot in a year. To regain vigor repot into a larger pot to allow the roots to spread again and the health to rebound. At that point you can put it back into a decorative appropriately sized pot again for shohin or mame aesthetics. Managing a small tree's health in small pots like this is tricky so you have to be on point with watering.
