I really like the Chinese writing, but I'm having trouble understanding the logic behind it.

How about the 齒 character? The two strokes at right-top are being stroke first, then the shorter stroke on the top-left :P So it's going right-to-left instead of left-to-right :/ Why is that?

It's really nice But I didn't understand how can a hèng+pei+na, when joined together sound dà?
@mattygaga20139 жыл бұрын
+mahiya abdulla they are the names of the strokes. like korean ㄹ it's name is a 리윽 (rieuk) but it's true pronounciation is r/l like 아들 is son (adeul). The da sound is when you combine h+p+na is hpda (dda for romanization).
@mahiyaabdulla78278 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining
@mildax21558 жыл бұрын
The stroke's names doesn't show the hanzi's pronunciation. It's like when you write an M, where you draw "sharp tip + sharp tip"... it doesn't gives you the clue to say "em"...
@ja85917 жыл бұрын
mahiya abdulla I think you can consider Korean as an alphabetic language. The Korean characters are not exactly like Chinese characters. You can tell what a Korean character sounds like by looking at its writing. For example, ㄱ=k,ㅣ=i,ㅁ=m,therefore 김=kim. And 김정은=Kim Jung Un. (Ps. the ㅇ on top of Korean characters are silent) But Chinese characters are not phonograms, they are logograms, which means their pronunciations are not associated with writing. Modern Chinese people developed a phonetic system named "pinyin" to help pronounce characters, made of Latin letters. There are 4 tones for mandarin; for sound "a", there are ā, á, ǎ and à. For one sound there could be many different characters. "tā" can represent 他她它...,"lā" can represent 拉啦垃邋 and etc. Traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese only partially differ in writing(飛鳥=飞鸟; 臺北=台北; 岳陽樓=岳阳楼,etc) Chinese has tons of dialects, not only Mandarin and Cantonese(has over 6 tones). They are just the most commonly used ones.
