I have watched about six ' ETTR how to' videos tonight, this is the first that tells me what I need to know, in simple easy to follow examples. Thanks.

Thanks so much! Very informative! Question: any additional considerations for ETTR when shooting video?

You should do ETTR at the basic ISO value (for most cameras ISO 100) to really reap the benefits of ETTR. I see from info in the top left corner that you shot with ISO 400. That means you apply amplification to the sensor data and the noise level goes up, especially noticable in the dark tones. This is then the basic exposure before the ETTR process. If you shoot with ISO 100 you have minimum noise which you can then minimize more by the ETTR process. Most experts seem to agree that you should do ETTR at the lowest possible ISO value only.

ETTR applies regardless of the ISO setting - there may well be good reason for using something other than the "native" ISO of the camera, usually to get the shutter speed and aperture combination that you must use in order to get the creatively correct shot you are aiming for. SOME cameras use 100 ISO as the native, but not all... Canons use 100... Nikons use 200... Sony may actually use 400 or 800 (remember they are a VIDEO company that does stills, so their sensors are geared toward that end!). Most "experts" talk out of their ass on youtube. I do not have a camera-centric youtube channel, but I have been doing digital capture since 2004, with the Canon 300D Digital Rebel, and now use the 13 year old 5D2 as it works very very well although it does not have the bells and whistles of the latest gear. cheers!

Soo on the last shot are you focusing on the sky because it’s the brightest? Cus that’s going to affect the histogram. This is always confusing thing for me. I hope this is an appropriate question and you will answer this for me.

Not sure if by "focus" you mean the focus point of the lens (which is not where I focused, but rather about a third of the way into the scene) or what I'm emphasizing in my explanation. But my point is that rather than use the lcd preview or exposure meter to gauge exposure, which in this image would underexpose, trust the histogram instead and "over-expose" slightly to push the histogram to the right just short of clipping. Hope that helps.

What kinda computer setup do u have to run all your editing?

This sounds an awful lot like 'Expose film for the shadows and develop for the highlights' is basically photographers' shorthand for the facts that you require sufficient exposure to record the shadow detail that you feel is important for the image that you want to make and that you need to process your film so that bright highlights will print as a very light grey with a bit of detail.
