You need to revise the ratio L/S limits @minute 4:44. For one way slab, it should be L/S greater or equal to 2, and for two way slab L/S only less than 2. Otherwise, your example @5:03 isn’t accurate because section AB23 will be two way slab according to your definition. Great video though.

His description is right, but the example is wrong. AB23 should be a two way slab I believe.

Beautiful informative video. I'm an Architect but I'm interested in calculating structures so the next step is to calculate loads on columns by dividing the total DL and LL on slab trapezoidal and rectangular areas by 2 between each 2 columns. Then moves the next more complicated phase which is calculating shear and moment force then shear and moment stress then moment of inertia then deflection of beams then column buckling and insuring values are on factors and less than the maximum factor value. Can you make another video about column load calculation ? Thank you ❤

To design a strip in both directions, I need to know the loads on each strip, this depends on the stiffness of the slab in both directions, and assuming that the amount of deformation at both strips must be equal, at that condition loads should be distributed in the correct form. Can you derive an equation to calculate the loads on each strip (note: the difference in slab stiffness depends on the length of the strip and the effect of strip continuity.?

Can anyone give an answer, making a horizontal roof with 5 x 30 cm wood boards (30 cm being vertically) would the boards in 5 meters length bend from it's own weight and snow ?

The trapezoidal load is not the same throughout its length on the beam. The load gradually increased to reach its pack in its middle portion. Same for trapezoidal load. To get the Uniform Distributed Load (UDL) from a trapezoid, even a triangular load, I believe there is a formula. This is what I noted from studying with an engineer here. Interestingly you represented the trapezoidal load as a rectangular when you divide the total load by the length of the beam. Is this procedure ok for slab load calculation only??? Anyway thank you very much. Such explanation are really needed and I really appreciate the way you explain those hard to grasp stuff.

I don't understand these types of videos. It's supposed to be for beginners except you have to already be an expert to know what they're talking about. If I already knew all the terminology and reference material than I wouldn't be watching the video in the first place. Who is this for exactly?

What is the purpose of the music? Engineering videos need full concentration. This is not videos about pranks and fashion. If anything at all, it should be very soft low volume classical that aid concentration. Please stop adding music. We can do that on our own
