Iceland is so surreal that it's easy to go trigger happy and take thousands of photos anywhere you look. Everyone focuses on the waterfalls and jeez that is not even the prettiest thing. There is SO much more! Love that country.

At least 85-90% of the time I spend on editing is mask edits, esspeically for photos that require major light correction, or that would benefit from seperation between key focus areas. I'll say this, Ben is 100% correct, once you begin to look at light differently while editing you'll never look at photography and editing the same way again!

I am totally the same. Ever since I got into masking my entire workflow has changed and my edits look 10 times better. My photography friends are like how do you get your edits like this.

Peter! Great video, great place, and happy birthday! One thing I’d to see from your workflow is how you deal with thousands of photos in Lightroom with the cloud. Like how do you do your backup and deal with all of the cloud stuff and then preserve all of them? Or do you just pay for cloud storage or do you just use Lightroom classic? I’ve hit my storage limit and I’m sure others have too and I think that this is often overlooked with photography videos. I haven’t found a good one for the newest version of Lightroom. Just and idea that I think would help out! Keep up the bangers!

Depending on the image/client I've been doing most of my retouching in lightroom lately, much the same way as Ben. In the past I felt like light shaping with multiple masks would just not play nicely with Lightroom and my computers performance and was only achievable in PS. I do my grading in LR then open it in PS and go wild. And I still do that, but with the latest improvements to lightroom, without impacting the performance of my macbook as much it's been awesome to use LR as a one stop shop. More people need to know about it, so thanks for sharing Peter and Ben!

I've been doing it since the pandemic. In the lockdown I couldn’t go anywhere so processed a bunch of old photographs. It came naturally to me when I was stuck with a lot of flat images. It's a great way to liven up a dull photo.

Wow. I've done this for years to help further isolate my subjects, and struggle severely with OCD when it comes to the edges of my images. I obsess over them to such a critical degree. Pulling dark to light, light to dark, and really having that smooth (manufactured) light shape to help lead the viewer's eye... I always leave an edit session feeling like I've spent way too much time on the image set, and like Benjamin said, playing "perfectionist." But once it becomes a style for you, and a look you tend to prefer, it's really hard to break this habit in the edit, or see any of your images where you DIDN'T do this amount of work as anywhere near "complete" or "your best." So it's really reassuring to see other photographers I look up to doing this for single images. Thanks for putting this kind of shit out, Pete.

Whoa. So cool. Absolutely stunning photos and videos from Iceland and great suggestions for using LR to advantage. I will say that I recently ran across just this idea from another YT photographer - Serge Ramelli. He's the polar opposite of your buddy in the frozen North - this guy is mostly an urban / architecture / city / portrait photographer. He's got some great tutorials on masking and lighting that are pretty sick. Really nice complement to what you're showing us here. And thanks for giving us the heads up about Benjamin Hardman! Definitely have to look this guy up. Cheers mate! J
