First SUP ride at the weekend 😀. Decided to stick to kneeling for the first couple of sessions, but after finding this channel, I went out again today. Practised getting back on - easier than I thought following your video on that - then straight line following these tips; much better. At the end, managed to stand up and paddle for a couple of minutes before catching the breeze a little and getting tipped into the water. Really great videos. Thanks guys; a big help and I think I’m going to enjoy this activity which is completely new to me. 👍 Big thanks.

So awesome to hear you are trying SUP and learning from the videos. All the best for future paddles! Beau

Hmm ! This might be next to look at - once I stand up on the board. I still have to learn how to get back onto the board and might be the last thing to learn on the 27th of this month at Weston Super Mare. I will do so. There and then. With more available space for manueovring. My next objective remain getting back onto the board after coming off. That will be on the 15th of this month. At Clevedon Marine lake - assuming that the water quality improves by this time.

Great to hear you are learning from these videos. If after a few sessions you keep falling off, your board may not be suitable for you. Going wider and longer in a board will hep with stability and make it more fun. Good luck! Beau

How is it going? I’m a beginner - first time was 2 days ago. Really like this channel 👍. Hope you are enjoying it - you must be an expert after 2 months, at least compared to me. 😊

@@moose99moose it took me a long time but I finally got to stand up for like 5 minutes before I fell again. I'm excited to get back on the water and continue.

@@RagginDragon13 you stayed up a good 4 minutes and 56 seconds longer than I did do so! I went back to my knees for that reason.

I noticed that!! Yesterday morning! And that was making the attempts to stand up on the board more pronounced. That and the offshore breeze were contributory factor. Hmm! Right on the 10th of September I will address this issue. Accordingly.

Being a canoer I was using c-stroke from the off, but still really struggle to move forward in a straight line. I was paddling on sea in to a fairly light breeze, if ghat makes a difference. First time out on the board and I was cursing it for being like trying to paddle on a tray. Unsure if that is because of the board, the conditions, or just my technique! I'm hoping it's mainly my technique as otherwise I can only see myself using the board in perfectly still weather on glassy water.
@SUPboardermag3 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes if you come from a canoeing background using the Cstroke is really straightforward. One of the problems you might be having though is not leaning forward enough and pulling yourself through the water and exiting the paddle just by your feet. This does give you a bit more control at the front of the stroke and keep you going in a straight line and also remember to keep your paddle shaft directly upright and going alongside the board as close as possible. And one last question, sorry I've got to ask, you did have a fin in didn't you?😉 Thanks Reuben.

Hmm - the main reason for my choosing to try paddle boarding on the River Avon is to develop the capacity of standing up on the board longer than 9 seconds. Reasoning that wind and offshore breeze were complicational factors. However I may have swapped out one difficulty with another. The weather could still screw up things with more rain than was expected. I recall difficulties with the water flow through Saltford last month in April. Could this be the case of the same ? If this gets cancelled. Then I shall have to find a different solution - there is one other site in Somerset, Vobster's Quay some 5 miles from Radstock and 4 miles from Frome. Might be an alternative. Unfortunately no weekend options there. It would have to be a week day..

SUP is very dependant on the conditions. The weather and as you say water flow can definitely cause difficulties. We're glad to hear you are keeping safe with your decisions. Vobster Quay would be a great option being a small and calm location. Let's hope you can get out on the water soon to practice! Thanks, Beau

@@SUPboardermag There's a very good gap happening on the 13th of this month. Good, Sunny and calm weather from 9 am to 5 pm on the day. I'm warily optimistic that I might well be paddle boarding this Saturday. I'm keeping an eye on the weather report and have already made observation of the improvement of the weather. I have also gotten the last piece of equipment for that session - a pair of wetsuit boots. This time around - much slimmer than the first pair I got. Which was a little bit too rigid in the instep. At the moment, the weather estimation is steadily improving. I will be making final weather checks on Thursday and Friday nights. Hopefully this time around, might be lucky to do so. Fingers crossed..

I have just bought an inflatable paddle board, which I have tried out twice so far, with great success. The only problem, is carrying the board to the launch site (the North Sea) Although the board isn’t particularly heavy, it is a bit awkward to carry. I’ve been looking online for carrying straps and there are a few, ranging in price from less than a tenner, to some much more expensive... they seems too good to be true. Have you used straps to carry your SUP .. if so, which one did you buy ?
@SUPboardermag2 жыл бұрын
We tend not to use such carry straps as we don't have to go too far to the water. Some brands have straps specific to their boards, so start there and check with the brand. Otherwise, make sure the strap will fit your board as they connect slightly differently. I wouldn't spend too much on the straps but you get what you pay for. Hope this helps. Thanks, Beau

@@SUPboardermag Thankas for your comment. I eventually went for the LOMO strap at £7.99. My mate bought one too, so with sharing the postage, it worked out a just under a tenner each .. so not too bad. Regards from Whitley Bay

I always did the J in the beginning not in the end, same effect. Is one more efficient than the other?
@SUPboardermag6 жыл бұрын
That's great and it works really well. Sounds like you are doing the 'C' stroke. You are probably doing the J stroke at the end too, but its very small and subtle and you might not even realise you are doing it. All good stuff, thanks for your comment. Reuben / SUPboarder
@SUPboardermag6 жыл бұрын
Mike B , Sounds about right... Just focus on keeping your paddle vertical and close to the rail of your board (without dragging it down the rail and damaging your board if its a hard board). You will soon grasp the perfect paddling straight technique.
