oh no, unfortunately i haven't figure out how to make round cube without add on. I hope u find out the solution soon.. i think some people facing the same problem with u on reddit, maybe u can find the answer there

​@@Ms.BlueChannelYou create a cube. Then select all the faces in edit mode. Apply bevel edges. Give the subdivision of 2 or 3. That's it.

hmm i wonder why... maybe your cursor is not hovering in the viewport, maybe your objects are not mesh, or accidentally selected camera or lights?
