This is by far the BEST🏆🎖️101 beginners video on KZbin. Precise, informational tips through out, and encouragement of self-creativity. I had to figure out by trial n error before I came across your video. I could have saved myself a lot of mistakes if I had watched the video first. Thanks, n kudo's to you. I'm only 🙏 after 8 yrs you still have your channel bc I'm subscribing anyway. ❤️

@@alekzandrmendyk779 So, the comment is 4 years old. They're not going to respond to you even if you spam. And, she was pretty clear in how she does the steps. If things were unclear you can watch the video a couple more times. If you still need help you can comment and say something like "Hey, I need a little more help at 12:03. why is she wrapping this way? When I do it it ends up loose" (I just spitballed that, the link isn't probably going to make sense with the question, but the format is good). Or, there's tons of basketweaving videos on youtube you could look at to fill in the gaps. If you're younger than having someone older with you could help a lot.

Wonderful instructional video. I decided that I would like to make baskets about 10 years ago. So for several years, I simply observed them. Last week, I received my first package of reed material; 3/8" wide. I took four pieces to make 8 spokes and held them together with a stitch of thread. I tried to start threading the 3/8th" read around the center. That didnt work. So I started at the top of the basket and made a rim and clothes pinned it to my spokes, my 8 spokes. After 3-4 rows, I realized that each spoke had all overs or all unders. Having an odd number of spokes didn't occur to me. So, I went back and started an alternate row on the second row and ran it between each layer of the original row. So, from top to bottom, there are two rows, the over-under-over row, and beneath it, the under-over-under row. When I got to the turn from side to bottom, I slit the 3/8th" lengthwise to 3/16th to make the transition easier. It was a tough go! But now I have found your youtube channel and I am thankful. I have found a wealth of useful knowledge in this first video and look forward to more. I hope you found my story amusing. I like to laugh at myself, especially once I have finally found the proper path to knowledge. Thank you for haring your knowledge and wisdom. - Paul

Hello - an art supply catalog like Sax or Dick Blick should have it. You can also look for basket kits in your local craft supply store to see if you like the process before you buy in bulk.

I Love the way You Describe and Show How to Make a Basket. You are Very Descriptive, Thank you. Sometimes, I Need to Make a Small Bird Nest, "In a Hurry? And IF I Don't Have Any Reed?.. Also, "They Like a Cover?" Do You Have a "KZbin Video" Showing "How To".. Using the Other Materials..... (that You Mention in This Video).... Instead of Reed? Like a Good, "Non- Toxic," Clean, Strong,Material to Use to Make a Small Bird Nest? And, "In a Hurry,"....Like in One Night? Also, Showing... "How To Make" A Basket Cover? I'm thinking that I Would Tie off a Few Spokes for the Front Entrance for the Birds. Then, Continue One Side of Spokes, (that I Start with Being Longer), Then Weave it, Bending The Spokes, Slightly, as I Weave It Towards the Other Side. That's My Idea from Watching & Listening to You?!?.lol So What I'm Really Asking You is... "If You Have Made a Video Showing...... "How To"...Make a.. "Hooded, Small Bird Nest?" & "With Recycled Material?"...I May Have on Hand...for an "Oops!".."NEED NOW!" A (Hooded) Small Bird's Nest? Thank you, So Much. Your "Basket Weaving, 101" Video,was Recommended for Me and You have Taught me Alot About Basket Weaving and I'd like to Learn More from You,....So, I Subscribed, Right Away! Then I Needed to Ask You About More of Your Videos.. Esp, Bird Nests? Again, Thank You.

People don't generally like to weave one step at a time, but to weave all the way around and then pushing it down afterwards. Good pointer.

Yes, you would just start turning up the spokes almost immediately after twining.

If you upright the stakes backwards, against the curve of the stakes, it will have a better base to stand upon. Unless you're going to put a foot on it.
@Luciffrit11 жыл бұрын
So if you wanted the basket to curve outwards at some point then you would just work in reverse? So putting pressure from the inside, pushing the spokes out?
@Nancytoday10 жыл бұрын

Hi ! I am really interested in making this basket for a school project. Would you mind giving me a list of materials and where i can get them from, for the basket? Thanks!
@creativejuice12311 жыл бұрын
yes, any large eyed needle - a plastic child's needle works great since it will flex when you go under a reed!
@creativejuice12311 жыл бұрын
The better technique would be to weave very loosely - still tuck down but leave plenty of slack. This will allow the spokes to flare out. Once it begins to go that way, when you weave to the inside you can put pressure on if you want the basket to curve out more dramatically.

Very nice. looks therapeutic. Are there artistic cultural design basket kits? would be so cool to make a basket to put on the shelf. Can you use some baskets for purpose, food etc?
@Nancytoday7 жыл бұрын
Glocked 17 yes of course. Just make them bigger. There are many materials to use. B

Any type of sturdy vine would work - supple twiggs might, but they would not be very long. Maybe try bamboo shoots if it grows in your area. Rafia would work, but would make a softer basket. Good luck!
@plumtucker95145 жыл бұрын
I've been collecting green Bitter sweet shoots about half cm thick with chip board from cereal boxes to try and replicate your methods. I use a damp towel to get the cereal box looser. So far I've only made a baskets for a miniature garden, I'm hoping when I'm more confident I'll splurge erg on proper materials. Thanks again for the tutorial and tips!
@Luciffrit11 жыл бұрын
Understood. I was thinking of those baskets which mimic a clay vase in appearance. So they bulge at the base then come in again before flaring out at the mouth.

How do you tuck in the twined yarn?
@creativejuice1236 жыл бұрын
Push the needle under the rows of yarn, then thread the yarn on the needle. Push through and out of the last row of yarn. Good luck!
