I think veteran officials forget what it was like for them in the beginning. With practicing the mechanics, studying the rule book and working as many middle school games as you can is only the beginning. Give the guy some slack, better yet some praise. We need officials, its hard enough without having the support of your fellow officials.

at 1:45 a foul is called in the back court...and then u rotate....thats wrong...u keep looking back towards the players after u make the foul call I suppose to get the correct number but if u made the call on the spot u wouldnt need to do that, and also it looks like during free throw administration the trail is going opposite side tabe? for 2 man mechanics thats wrong. but still compared to alot of pretenders that just ref to make some extra money this demonstration is better than alot of the guys out there on the court I have seen.

I don't know why state associations can change the mechanics. Are they changing the rules as well? This goes against iaabo. One rule one interpretation. Tom Lopes would be sad. Now for these officials. Much better in second half. I still don't know what a hit is in basketball. Use illegal use of hands/arms. We in Ontario Canada have gone to fiba rules so no more nhfs for us.

Jake, a lot of us don't go by IAABO rules! Hope you have a great season!

What on earth are these guys doing? Running with your arm up holding the foul? Not signaling the infraction at the spot. Saying I got, or we got gold 22??? On the arm??? WOW. These mechanics are horrible. Pointing the throw in spot with an open hand???

+portscan69 Horrible mechanics compared to what? A 1 year Official or a 30 year seasoned Official? I suspect based on the level of this game, these men are newer Officials. So based on a 1 or 2 year Official, not bad at all. yes, a bunch of polishing to do, but to throw a blanket statement out there without knowing who or how long these Officials have been in the game is foolish.

Horrible mechanics compared to just what I said. Horrible mechanics.

+portscan69 Some associations do not want officials making preliminary signals at the spot of the foul, outside of the closed fist (unless it's a close block/charge play). You probably shouldn't throw out statements like that without knowing which association they work for or how long they have been officiating. These guys obviously look like first year or second year officials at best. It sounds like you know your stuff but I'm sure you made many of the same mistakes these guys are making in your first year.

+Tony C that association is wrong. The rules set by NFHS clearly states to do this.

+Tony C also, preliminary mechanics tell your partner(s) what you have and if we are shooting or designating a throw in spot. Nothing worse than a foul or violation being called and your not knowing if there's shots or where the throw in spot is.
