Robusta was created when Or Lubianiker’s modern bass stylings met Avital Tamir’s ancient Banjo Clawhammer technique. The tight and unique friendship between the two started early 2018 after meeting each other randomly in the studio. After wasting many wonderful mornings talking music, the human psyche and everything in between as well as drinking lots, and lots of coffee - it was finally decided to take the relationship to the next level and have the electric bass meet the acoustic banjo.
The duo deep dived into the journey of working on a new, unfamiliar project, fusing their styles and shaping the sound of "Robusta".

It's AMAZING the rabbit holes you go down. Plus banjo is one of those "easy to play, difficult to master" situations so starting out is cake. It's the first string instrument I've ever played.

@@ecksluss 99% of the time I hear banjo it's either bluegrass or dixieland. So when I hear it outside those two genres, to me it has a unique haunting, other-worldly sound. Banjo players can give better opinions on the technique than I can, but the piece strikes me as innovative stylistically and tone-palette-wise.
