to each his own, I like the vintage threaded saddle bridge

i would be more interested to know how different bridges feel in the pluck hand/playing wise, string tension etc

The main attribute to the Babicz is the ability to lock in the settings. That alone is worth the price of admission in my humble opinion. The fact that it's far more comfortable (lack of sharp edges in comparison to the stock bridge) makes a massive difference in playability. As for tone, a decent DI/PreAmp will solve any issues regardless of what bridge you use. In summary, I prefer the Babicz, but ultimately no bridge will make you a better/worse bass player.

Also, the entire saddle base makes contact with the bridge plate, it’s not balancing on two grub screws, so it transfers much more vibration (in my experience).

@ajkandy Absolutely👍 I noticed a definite improvement between the Babicz vs the stock Fender bridge. Not so much a tonal one (as others have mentioned) but notes have a noticeable clarity, resonance & punch with the Babicz which I attribute to the full contact design. I've upgraded to Babicz on all but one of my basses, a pre-CBS Fender Precision.

Wow…all different. Love simple vintage but that Babicz has got some balls.

I keep the original vintage plate but put 100% brass Guyker saddles & intonation screws (metric, Fender being Imperial)...same as Fenders modern saddles with 3 string gooves, the bottom of the barell is flat....great sounding & for some weird reason they sit lower than the original saddles...lower action...i could never get low action with the vintage original bridge...also no grub screws stabbing my hand now as they sit perfect after changing the 2 outer saddles grub screws, E & G, for shorter grub screws of an old Trevor Wilkinson vintage bridge, they are all just sub-flush...only took me 45 years to discover...lol...i like the tone of the Bad Ass ll with brass inserts....most of my bass's have brass nuts, works for me...good demo....

A very useful comparison. The two Gotohs sound as good as anything here. The 201B might be slightly more musical, but the Vintage has adjustable string spacing. I think I would go for the Vintage, since it's also the lightest. I hear no justification for the added weight of the Omega, or the extra cost. The Babicz in this application seems to be a triumph of design over function: it sounds no better than the Gotohs - if anything, it seems slightly muffled - and costs way more.

Thanks for another great comparison video, much appreciated! Can't really hear much difference, but I can understand why some would prefer the Allparts high-mass (badass-type) bridge.

Great comparison, I do hear a difference. Just a few things to add. Only the saddles on the Gotoh 201b are brass the baseplate is Zinc just like the Omega. A lot of times the Babicz is refered to as a high mass bridge(incorrect) when in fact it's one of the lightest bridges due to the aluminium construction. To me the vintage bridge for old school stuff/all around and the Omega for modern stuff. I like the Babicz design but the sound is a little thin IMO.

The original vintage bridge sounds surprisingly good to me. Prefer the Gotoh 201, and makes me have doubts about the stock Babicz on my Gibson EB 2014
@jonathanchevallier70462 жыл бұрын
Hard to hear a difference in term of sound, maybe a little more medium for the old school bridge ? A difference on sustain too. Have you notice a difference in feeling, comfort and playability ?
IMO I have a theory that the little difference in sound might be because there is a difference in string stiffness knowing of how the strings sit differently each bridge. And because it feels different, you play differently (for example you might want hit the string harder as string stiffness goes up), resulting in difference in sound. Compare the fingerstyle comparison vs the slap comparison, and notice how much more insignificant the differences between the bridges are when slapping.

Best-sounding: everything but the Babicz. Probably the vintage-style Gotoh. My favorite: the Omega. I like to put high-mass bridges on my basses because I like the feel. Objectively, they sound no better and are no more reliable than vintage-style, but I like them anyway, and that grooved Omega is the best. Also, basses balance better if you put a big bridge and lightweight tuners on them.

*A good bass player can make a budget bass sound like an expensive boutique one.* *Just as a bad bass player can make an expensive boutique bass sound budget.* *That being said, the Babicz owners aren't having to spend time re-adjust their bridges due to screws vibrating out of position.* *On average, I do about 20 bridge adjustments (guitars & basses) per week at my guitar shop.* *Always the same symptoms "My guitar/bass won't stay intonated."* *Some agree to a recommend drop of Locktite, but they're back in for an adjustment when or if they change string gauges.*
The diference is very small. If you want diferent tone, its Better buy a equalizer
@TenFalconsMusic19 күн бұрын
*Definitely👍* *A good DI/Preamp (and the tone knobs on the bass) are it.* *...but try telling that to the "wood tone" or "bridge tone" crowd.*

In spite of its more modern technology and the much vaunted and publicized greater contact points and greater surface area to transmit the vibrations of the strings to the body, the Babicz, to my ears, is the one that sounds worst of all and the most anonymous in sound! !! 🤣
