Using a .55 set for standard / Drop D tuning sounds crazy, I can't imagine how tense it must be

Oh man, I wish this video had existed when I started playing in metal bands back in the day. Good job, Bondeo!

Thanks so much for doing this. This has been super useful. I agree with all the praise in the other comments and want to send it your way.

I liked D`Addario balanced tension 50-120 for drop C. It's strange it was not included here :)

I love that you did this!! Currently I use the DR's but they seem to go "dead" pretty fast. The EB's were the best for in my ears

Good comparison. The DRs and the Warwicks would be my choice by a short head from the Ernie Ball Beefys and the Dean Markleys. Tuning down to C was the test: all sets seemed to cope reasonably with D tuning. The DRs, with their 105 bottom, show that a heavier bottom string need not be necessary: but in general, the heavier sets win.

I have a hard time telling in these if I actually prefer the Cobalts, because they are slightly louder by better design and maybe I'm treating louder as more good

I've used cobalt power skinkys on my Jazz for years now and I'm thrilled to hear they were also my favourites outta this list. Beefys win for drop C and Warwicks are in 2nd but the low C lets em down a touch

Wow Dean and Warwick are the most positive surprise for me I never gave them a chance and in contrast all the other brands I am surprised how not well they performing. I thought that it was my bass fault that it sounded so dull when in fact it is the strings to blame. Thanks for this video I will for sure give Warwick and Dean strings a shot 👍

The Warwick EMP coated strings are fantastic as well. Blew my mind first time I tried them on my Warwick Thumb.

Maybe the DR and the Ernie ball one. What a sound with darkglass saturation ! Thank you for this comparison ;-)

I thought the DR had the best low end and pitch stability when distorted. 135 is best to maintain stable tuning with long scale drop C, but DR seems to have no problem even with a lower gauge.

I prefer 50-110 gauge because I can play in standard and go to drop c when I want

I tuned my 5 string up to a whole step down/drop C. Much tighter and more sustain than tuning a 4 string down. So B string is in C, or D.🍻

I broke my B string doing that, live, twice.. never again

Pretty cool demo 😎🤘🏻🎸 especially when demoed with distortion. Personally I liked the d’addario ny xl, the Dunlop drop tuned, and the rotosound bass strings. When it comes to drop tuning, I personally prefer drop B. I’ve always like how it sounds in that tuning.

Ernie ball cobalts have some kind of an fm synth sound that I like.

the EB cobalts sounded great. too bad it goes dead quickly in our humid country so we stay away from it.
