I love being able to hear the bass clarinet lines so clearly, but I wish this had been edited so we could see the whole group of these talented High School musicians without having to watch the first 13 minutes of nervous chatter before the music starts, the shuffling of music and banging of the stands, looking up noses lol, etc.., because it takes away from such a beautiful performance. I hope you will be able to post your future performances after you have edited all of the extraneous stuff.

I'm in my junior year of high school and we have a guy who started on bass clarinet Freshman year (the only one of his class) started playing contra alto clarinet as a sophomore, and just this year is now playing a contrabass. The contrabass is such a sick instrument, it's obvious that he must really like low, big clarinets.

Oh my gosh... I thought it was just me who held the bass clarinet in a way where you would be playing a C. I saw the guy on the left do it a lot and it makes me wonder. What other things do I do that fellow bass clarinet players do as well

I do it that way sometimes other times I use my right hand with three fingers down and thumb under the thumb rest. It really depends for me, I flip the page using my right hand (so I’ll hold in left), and I keep my water bottle on the left so I’ll grab it with my left hand (hold with right). When I’m just carrying my bass clarinet If I don’t have any books in hand I’ll hold with both hands if I have books then just right hand

Two things that my mom does that tends to be annoying is that she calls my bass clarinet bass (like the fish) clarinet. Second thing is she always thinks we are starting the concert without warming up so she always ends up recording the warm up which is usually Bb concert in rounds.

At my school the instrumentation for the band (just my grade level not the others) is 9 percussionist, 1 tuba, 1 trombone, a couple baritones, 6 or 7 trumpets, 1 bari sax, a couple tenor sax, a few alto sax, 2 clarinets, 2 bass clarinets, two flutes. I’m not sure exact numbers especially since we recently transitioned to second semester and a few people dropped out of band and there are a few the teacher doesn’t know if they are or not. We have a lot of percussionist for a band with 30 or so people.
