Went out today after the storms yesterday and caught 14 largemouth. 2 with a shad colored spinnerbait (Strike King) and 12 with a Netbait BaitFuel infused junebug worm on a shaky head setup. Probably a record number for me and all from the bank on Lake Chickamauga. Thanks Matt and Tim for all your help through the years!

@@tacticalbassin I ended up losing the spinnerbait because it got snagged which has happened a lot of times with many lures. I usualy am ok with anything texas rigged and the ATV but I lose a lot of the other baits. What's the best choice for a bait retrieve device for bank fishing.

My view on the matter is that Daiwa and Shimano know that US market is loaded and they are perfectly content selling previous generation or higher end gear here and holding back cheaper and/or more advanced reels. This is why we get Curado BFS, but SLX, and this why we get SLX DC but not SLX DC XT which has size 70 reel and reportedly can handle 1/16's, and this is why you apparently can buy an aftermarket BFS spool for Tatula 80 and make a double punch tool out of it with any of the three gear ratios you prefer, and it's still going be cheaper than budget BFS-only reel.

Hi Matt, thanks again for these videos. I have been watching you guys for the last ~ 9-10-years or so ago... its been so long its a blur at thig point. Love all your success and it is so well deserved. I had to take a break from fishing because I had two kids under two and life just in general didn't give me the time to be able to go out like I used to. Now that I have, it would be nice to have a video comparing todays budget gear vs say 5\10\15 years ago high end gear. It would be nice to see how far your dollar goes now and what you get almost standard now for what it would have been a high end feature back then. Thanks again for your videos.

It seems to me, most bfs equipment casts better when its not forced. That said, as a longtime Megabass nut, I've been fishing JDM stuff for quite some time. Warranties be damned, if I've wanted it, it's coming from Japan. Lol. So maybe I've just adapted to it over the years?.?.

Matt I love that you found out about the Regals quality .bought my first Daiwa regal LT2500D-XH almost a year ago and now I own three I absolutely love them, the 2500-XH is the lightest “somewhat” larger size reel ive ever owned, I’m pretty sure it specs out around 6.8oz? Don’t quote me but that reel is amazing, and picks up 34.5” per rotation on a spinning reel! Unreal quality for the money. I LOVE you saw that too. 3:04 ..I also see the power behind a 210 4”swammer and a 3/8 oz DJ tactical underspin to cover water. I have my Regals paired (2 of them with Daiwa Tatula XT (extremely great quality for around $80-$100..and one on a Daiwa Aird X braided, as I absolutely love that rod- the Tatula is just a step up in quality. Good work guys! Great great great work.

I have another 2500 on a 6’ ML Fenwick and I basically switched over to it for all river. It does everything I need and makes 1 lbs feel like 3 lbs. Paired it with 8 lb Braid, tight lines 🫡

I’ve got two blanks I’m building for myself from NFC. They’re complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Ones a bfs zero power and the other is a MB 7109 cut down to 7’5”. I can tell I’m going to like 7’5”, but that zero power is a noddle. Time will tell how that one does, but I don’t think it’s going to fit my style of bfs. Maybe it’ll be a good bfs crank, but that’s about all I can see it doing.

I've been following you guys for years and one thing I would like to see more of is talking about what not to buy, or another way to say it is products or tactics that you don't like. In bass fishing there's always sooo much new baits and other products it's hard to know what's good and whats trash. You guys go over what you like but not what you don't. Sometimes it could be helpful to know about that.
@tacticalbassin
@tacticalbassin 25 күн бұрын
We can respect that, but we have avoided that intentionally. Fishing is a very small sport and, for the most part, is run by small businesses. While the vast majority of products that come to market don't make the cut with us, it doesn't mean they're terrible for everyone. Maybe somewhere out there is an application that we've overlooked for a particular bait. We would hate to be responsible for bad publicity that ultimately hurt a small business or family. So instead, we made a decision many years ago to find the best gear and highlight it, rather than the worst. Believe me, we waste a lot of money on junk tackle, but hopefully anglers can see these reviews and save a lot of time and wasted funds. Trash talking the worst would get a lot more views (sadly) but we just can't justify participating in that.

Wondering if you guys have ever run into issues with the Curado MGL series? I got one late last year and finally got it out on the water and after only 2 uses, I'm hearing some grinding and feeling vibrations on the retrieve. When I loosen my spool tension and drag, it seems to go away, but when I return them to where I want them it comes back. Last night I took the entire reel apart, degreased everything and re oiled and greased and its still happening. Wondering if anyone knows any fixes or if this is just something that occurs with these reels? Thanks!

That first reel you mentioned line capacity. I've recently switched my thinking to want less line capacity due to the occasional wind knots. I find i'm having to cut off long chunks of line which leave me with a less than ideal fill on the spool. Given that fact would you say a lower line capacity is always better or do the benefits of a lot of line outweigh this? (longer casts is really the only benefit i can think of)

@GaryAnderson87
@GaryAnderson87 26 күн бұрын
I’m not hating but they haven’t been 100% honest about the leader knot and the T-Wing. I run 40lb braid to 15lb leader on my Zillion with no problems. I reel the knot into my spool before every cast. You’ll be using even thinner line in a bfs setup so you’ll be fine
@jacobkramer1089
@jacobkramer1089 26 күн бұрын
I think Daiwa says that has more of a liability thing in case your connection knot does get stuck, it's a "I told you so" so they don't get blamed. Same thing with their AGS guides, they tell you not to use connection knots. But I haven't had issues with the t-wing or the AGS guides with those types of knots.
@richardbossman9875
@richardbossman9875 26 күн бұрын
May be ok on a BFS setup because of the super thing diameter but I have had issues using normal sized braid and leaders ( and I can get my modified blood knots almost as thing as the line itself). I don’t think they are being dishonest, When they mentioned it it was when they were talking about using thicker lines. Personally I wish Daiwa had a conversion kit to switch to a normal line guide.

Hey I’m from NorCal. Anyone fish Clearlake and if so, what’s working right now and into summer? Just bought a lake house and will be on the lake as much as possible. Thanks

Only problem I have with Diawa is reliability. That has been the biggest problem with Diawa baitcasters. Great free spool for pitching, but after one year of use, you pretty much have to toss it into the scrap bin. Why can't Diawa make something that lasts like Shimano? That is why I choose Shimano. Diawa to me is a disappointment to quality. That has been my experience since the late 90's.

What models? I have fully functioning Daiwas from the mid 1980s. I fish both Shimano and Daiwa, I get longer life from current Daiwa gear sets than Shimano MM. Now Shimano HEG, okay that's different. Also, if you have ever fished an OG Daiwa Zillion, these reels are more bulletproof than Curado/Core/Chronarch from this same era...there are still thousands of these OG Zillions in service today. FWIW, I really only have MIJ Daiwas, even a Procaster HT1000, my first baitcaster from the mid 1980s.

@vansaukam799 I guess my reply didn't meet guidelines, so I will try again. Lol. Team Diawa-X TD-X103HiLA. Had 2 of those and loved them for pitching, but after a year they would start to bind up. Sent one to Diawa to get rebuilt, and after a week of use the reel handle/ shaft bent enough I couldn't use it for my tournament at that time. I have a Zillion 100SHL 7.1. Not sure what is considered OG? Similar issues with binding during reeling. Casts great! It is better than the TD'S I have. For my unfortunate experience, 3 strikes, can't buy another one. Out of 13 Curados, since the 90's, I only have one of my E series where the spool is constant free. The centrifugal brakes don't work at all, so you have to dial it all in thru the spool tension. Like I said. My experience. I'm sure someone could say the same about Shimano? Tight lines

@@jasonblauvelt9655 Yep I can see that...there are design cues for Daiwa and Shimano that provide for their different strengths, weaknesses, and performance. The very tight and refined pinion and main gear connection of Daiwa reels takes on more abuse (more susceptible to wear and damage) than the HEG and prior version Shimanos, which have a bit of play in the IAR and pinion/gear connection, and this has some give on hard hooksets. Also, Shimano has a super stopper backup which also helps with hard hook sets at a shorter distance and the long shaft design which helps to support the spool under tension. The more durable Daiwa for your type of fishing would have been prior to the shaft less spool design that was introduced with the TDX series. Daiwa is made for ease of casting lighter lures and for covering water, but not necessarily heavy braid and short hard hooksets, although the Zillion Type R and has been a highly regarded and preferred reel for frogging. The E series, especially the 200 sizes, were very robust and would be a great choice for pitching, even the Core 100 and Chronarch D7, although I have worn out a CH D7 cranking 1 oz big blades spinnerbaits as well...in the end, these are wearable parts. Also, the OG Zillion is the one built on the same looking frame as the TDZ, but larger on the gearbox side and made of aluminum vs MG. Sorry to hear about your Daiwa experience, but overall both Shimano and Daiwa make the best and most reliable and durable reels for FW...SW, for me, Shimano has the advantage. Thanks for sharing.

Green pumpkin doesn't do it for me. Your black n blue is my green pumpkin. For 20 yrs the lake I fished had that bottom poop looking sediment or w.e it is and Green pumpkin was everywhere. It looked nasty and I couldn't imagine anything being able to tell it apart so Green pumpkin I hated!

I find 7:1 to be very fast without being too fast. Some techniques require a slower approach and I struggle to go slow enough with an 8:1.
