Thanks so much for the comments on NOT lipping large bass, I wish more people would learn this!
@nathantidwell31972 жыл бұрын
Why?
@KstrSM152 жыл бұрын
@@nathantidwell3197 Holding a fish by the jaw ("lipping") can damage or deform the jaw, especially if you hold it out horizontally. It's okay to lift it vertically to land it but support it underneath if you want to hold it out flat. Thanks for asking.
@nathantidwell31972 жыл бұрын
@@KstrSM15 yes sir learn something new everyday. I’ve lipped them like that my hole life, making a change🙏🏼
@bssaassin19002 жыл бұрын
While it is better to hold em with both hands in some cases you have to lip em and you hold the fish vertically straight up and down not at a weird angle. But yes a really large fish should be supported

My favorite outfit for fly fishing for bass is my old 8 foot 6 inch Fenwick HMG with an 8 weight bass bug taper fly line, 6 to 8 feet of 20 lb. test leader and my old Pfluger Medalist. This outfit has caught literally hundreds of bass, and I see no reason to change.

I've pretty much only been using dragonfly patterns or Flatliners for smallmouth. I should probably switch it up since the fish went deep but its just too much fun watching them hit on top.

I have big bass in my state. Have a 6wt dedicated streamer rod with a sink tip for em. PS - I do have a couple of those senko flies 😅 if it's silly and it works, it's not silly
@fairviewhomestead4 жыл бұрын
Ive been considering a 6wt for bass or a 7. How big do you get with your streamer sizes?? I feel like the 8 might be too much for where I am fishing. I like as light of tackle I can get away with.
@Charsept4 жыл бұрын
@@fairviewhomestead I keep my flies on the smaller side. (Those worm flies being an exception) I stay away from the huge bass bugs and mostly throw the smaller streamers like Woolly Buggers, etc. I feel like the 6 weight is fine but I do sometimes think a 7 would have been the best compromise.
@fairviewhomestead4 жыл бұрын
Charsept right on. I’m kind of leaning toward the 7. Might do a little saltwater with it as well.
@georgesouthwick70008 ай бұрын
It has been said that fishing the same water, a fly fisherman will catch more bass on a given day than someone using spinning or bait casting gear. The person using bait casting or spinning tackle will usually catch bigger fish, but the fly fisherman will usually catch more bass.

Put 9 wt. line on your 8 wt. rod ......a 9' ft leader , ( 4' of 50 lb. ) ( 2'ft.40lb.) ( 1'ft. of 25 lb. ) and ( 2' ft. of 15 lb tippet ) .Thats what I use for Smallies or large mouth Bass .....The heavier fly line will shoot out fast and long on your cast ..... and if you double haul even farther casting . Works excellent !!
