This is so cool . When I move out of my small apartment into a house I’d love to have a room just for making different lures and tie some flies. That jig looks amazing !

That’s really nice looking jig. I’ve watched a to n of videos and your the only one that does thread and wire. Definitely the best tie I’ve seen buddy. Thanks

Thank you sir, very much appreciated! I haven't ran into anyone else myself that uses the thread + wire wrap or the living rubber + silicone skirt material I absolutely love the combo as it makes a good looking jig with a lot of action that is durable.

Very beat tutorial I have seen, and a great looking jig. I would like to humbly recommend you make yourself a few with about half as much skirt material just to try. Maybe your results will be different, but I feel like I get the rate of fall I prefer and I catch more fish with a thinner skirt. Good luck.

great video except im confused on some things. Why the wire and what's the "living rubber" for? why not just use 2 more black n gold tabs?
@applegatefishing
@applegatefishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks Bobby! The wire is just an extra barrier to keep the skirt in place. It is not a requirement, I prefer having the wire there versus not. Living rubber actually provides the skirt with more action / pulsating action when on the bottom, jigging or swimming the jig. There is a big enough difference in how silicone skirt material performs vs. living rubber that I put some living rubber in all of my jigs. The living rubber typically cost more than the silicone skirts. I prefer the aesthetic of the silicone skirt material along with the cost but I prefer the action of the living rubber. Hence the hybrid jig. Really just comes down to personal preference more than anything.

I see you snip off the weed guard to start and glue in a new one to finish. How do you clean out the initial stump off the original guard in order to get a good glue set?
@applegatefishing
@applegatefishing Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I fully understand the question but before I pour my jig heads or paint them I use a Teflon insert. Once the paint has been baked on fully I remove the insert so the hole stays clean and makes it easy to glue in the fiber weedguard. barlowstackle.com/Teflon-Base-Hole-Pins-P2186/

Stretch and cut the living rubber really slowly, cutting off only about 1/8th inch or so, and it will separate without having to do each strand by hand.

Lurepartsonline, barlows, do it molds websites all have them. You can get pre-made jigs. Just make sure you get skirts, bands and weed guards. If they are unpainted, you will need powder paint as well and a heat gun. Easy once you get started.

You are missing out on the best part by not stretching the rubber and cutting with scissors to separate the strands lol. Great looking jigs! Too bad people will only buy "wire tied", thread tied is more than strong enough.

Why do you use thread and wire. I’ve never seen anyone do that. I just use thread and that’s enough but I’d like to know your reasoning. Btw that’s a gorgeous jig. Thank you for putting this up.
@applegatefishing
@applegatefishing 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Darkman, the main reason for the thread is so I can more easily layer / adjust the material. The thread is plenty to hold the material on, you're right, however when I started selling my jigs I came across reluctance to buy them simply because they were not 'wire tied'. So now the jigs I make / sell have probably the most secure skirt on the market with thread + wire securing it.
