Good job on day 1. But what’s better than the fish you caught and the wight was the sportsmanship you showed to your co angler telling him to pitch in your hole and that there is no excuse for him not to get his 3. Yeah you have a lot more on the line as far as expenses and the elites. But that guy also had his own expenses and you did that more than once. Upmost respect for ya hoss!👍🏼

Great job man, Oneida is one of my home lakes. That fishery can get real stingy mid summer, lots of hiding spots and bait for the smallmouth. The jig on the spinning rod was working for ya, I throw a tube often.

On St Lawrence, there are a number of anglers staging just outside of the top ten line. Maybe doing something different to those above it. At St. Lawrence river after 'Thursday' fishing day. One wonders whether that pattern of fishing the slower traditonal lures will increase in effectiveness. Or if something such as the jerk bait lure will come back strong. As a pattern from the middle of the field (there isn't much weight to separate dozens of anglers). After day one. Or if that pattern the 'top ten' are using will win. It's an interesting mix of anglers. In terms of places. Moving into the day two at St. Lawrence.
@trouttackle3653
@trouttackle3653 2 жыл бұрын
Looking at day two, it goes to demonstrate. How Scott had put everything into it. Only just to miss out by a narrow margin. To reach day three. There is a random 'twenty seven' pound type of bag. That seems to be there. It seems to be available (as Scott himself would explain, if you can put the small mouth bass in the biat). Far from certain. And the twenty-seven pound bag must include. A six or seven pound bass. As many bass as were caught at St. Lawrence river. Not many over six pounds. And really not many that were close to seven. A twenty-seven pound bag is one seven pounder. And four five pound bass. Which is a high barrier to entry. No doubt.

Class move man, helping your co out. Trying to help him get his fish. It doesn't surprise me a bit! I had to chuckle a bit when you talked about 17+lbs being 23rd place. Watching the Elite weigh in yesterday a 20lb bag got someone 61st place. guys are bringing in 20 lb bags the first two days and missing the cut. NY smallmouth ain't no joke since they started eating the round goby! But where you are at 17+ lb bag is very respectable. Great job!

Day Three on the St. Lawrence.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree with anglers who have observed. That going up to the northern lakes in order to catch small mouth bass. Is not always the most reliable indicator of fishing expertise. There was I think a quite random twenty-seven pound weight bag of fish caught. Per day. On the St. Lawrence. And it's just skipped and jumped around. Between different anglers who happened to be lucky. On that particular bite. On any given day. It's kind of like a 'wheel of fortune' style thing. And there is only 'one' of those twenty-seven pound weight bags. Per day at the St. Lawrence. On day three, it happened to go to Chris Zaldain. And on other days, it floated around between other anglers. What it is really. Is a perfect string of five pound weight bass. In one day. With one exceptional fish as part of that. It's not really a lot different. From any of the other more 'ordinary' twenty-five pound weight strings of bass. That other anglers are fortunate enough to catch.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
Here is the thing though. And two points on it. First of all. Chris Zaldain, having listened to Chris himself speak about it. He's been working this type of approach to fishing. For a while now. And some other anglers there on the Elite series have too. Matt Pangrac refers to it as the 'big wood' in the water. I listened to an iCast preview on Livestream the other evening. And they also said that at iCast in 2022. The price of big wood is coming down. It is getting to that 'sixty dollar' threshold now. Where it becomes more accessible as a bait option. To more anglers. It was ironic, that when the price of ordinary things in bass fishing. Such as the price of fuel to get to the lake. Is going up. The special things in bass fishing such as swim baits and glide baits. May be becoming more affordable. It's shocking how economics works at times.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
The point or argument about it. From an Elite series fishing point of view. Are two things. Firstly, small mouth bass (and twenty seven pound strings of small mouth). To quote Scott Martin again. Are not easy to get in the boat. And especially if you catch them. On what Chris Zaldain is fishing with. Sometimes those bass will get energetic and throw off the bait. I think at one point. Chris even said it was worth it. To go underwater diving. In order to retrieve a bait or two. That were stuck on underwater trees. In one of the lakes in Texas. Salvage operations for big wood is a thing. That is how valuable those baits were. The guy who lost three chatter baits, in a row. On one of the northern lakes recently. To pike fish that would bite them off. Only had to dish up seventy-five dollar. For that expensive mistake. With swim baits you could lose double that. In a single cast. The point that Chris' result on day three at St. Lawrence river proves. Is this is a viable option. For going 'in search' of the random, or mythical. Almost thirty pound weight string of fish. And also, with fish that no how to escape very well. Such as the way that small mouth bass do.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
Apart from that. It is hard to draw that many useful conclusions. That do relate to fishing. From the St. Lawrence river elite series event in 2022. Except that a lot good anglers caught good strings of bass. And did it repeatedly. Over several days. Or to quote someone recently who said it best. If you showed up at St. Lawrence river with a limit of three pounders. You would get laughed off the stage. Which I agree, does not seem right.

Good stuff! you know you’re only allowed to use crimson colored tape! I use that keitech jig also, but have mixed feelings. I’ve bent the hook out a lot on it, but never tried it on a spinning reel, thanks for the idea. Can you make a video on the new B.A.S.S. Open changes and your thoughts? Keep up the good work!
