Whst I like most about Avi's voice is the softness and the richness which so well accompany the lyrics. The poetry isn't only in the words, but also in the beautiful way he expresses them. Relaxing in the song, allowing the words to sink into my very soul.

I've become a great admirer of Avi since falling in love with his voice via his work with Pentatonix. When you said Avi has a 'natural voice' I was curious about what that meant, and what his background early vocal training consisted of, so I went 'hunting'. > "After graduating high school, Kaplan attended Mt. San Antonio College, where he studied opera and choral studies. The college is known for its strong choral and a cappella programs" [ Source: Wikipedia ] I learned he has influences, and considerable experience, in singing across a lot of different genres; including; classical voice, jazz, a capella, pop, country and folk, so he moves very flexibly with techniques and nuances from across all of these, at will. His range and depth is equally impressive, but the stand out for me, floating through all of the above 'toolkit' is the warmth, the immediacy and the intimacy he brings to his tone - that reaches straight through to the heartstrings. 😍😊

I subscribed awhile ago, because I loved your breakdown and knowledge of music. You have a really great low bass voice, too. What makes Avi's music so special (aside from great lyrics and amazing voice) is how much he "feels" the music. He puts his heart and soul into his music. You can hear it, and you can feel it. Your breakdowns help me understand a little of how he does it.

Avi Kaplan's voice is BUTTA! That is why we love it so much. I still think he should cover some Jim Croce songs. Yes, I leave that in the comments on his videos. A great song to review that is at a different style is When I'm A Fool. This thing picks up and goes! Makes ya want to dance! I also have another idea for your analysis part of your videos. Lyric analysis, taking some of these better written songs and appreciating the way the lyrics paint the story of a song. It's an idea 💡. This was lovely and I can't wait to see what you or the Bass Gang does with this. Tomi will have to do the steel guitar part LOL. Tank you for sharing your gifts 💜

Hi, Peter. Great analysis as usual. One of my favorite qualities of Avi’s voice is how much like a cello or upright bass it sounds. This is especially present in Pentatonix’s Silent Night, but comes through in his solo work as well. Just gorgeous. I’m also thrilled for him that he was able to and found the courage to break away from a dream that had quit fulfilling him and regain that fulfillment in a different dream.

Avi’s voice and music is like a warm hug in a warm sunbeam in the forest. One of the things i find particularly telling is how your analyses of Avi tend towards clarifying minor things, and letting his. voice speak for itself. Great analysis! Avi has this way of singing that while being deep, he's still able to keep it light and gentle. Whereas a large majority of basses might have to push harder to release the same notes. Thanks much!

You made me appreciate this song even more, and that is saying something. I have never really listened to his vibrato so intently before, but now I have my headphones on analyzing it all. You are right. Avi’s voice was always meant for Folk/Americana. It’s so natural, and nothing is perfectly sung, and that’s the brilliance of it. And no, he never hits a bad note, but his voice has a tone and breath to it that make it feel like you are sitting around a campfire just taking in nature. His voice feels instinctive, like every articulation is intentional, yet unplanned. It’s just so pure, and his musical style is incomparable. Thank you for breaking this down. You’ve earned a like and a follow!!

Great, fantastic, fabulous reaction to Avi. Your admiration for his work was evident. He announced today that he would be writing all week and he was quite excited about it. Not sure if you have listened to it on youtube, but some concert goers recorded Avi in his last two 2022 tour performances. Both times the last song was O Holy Night and I cannot tell you how perfect it was with his voice. While most of us who sing or were once singers, I remember sitting through many a Christmas concert production and almost never were the tenor or sopranos capable of hitting that one note and you were tense then entire song knowing they would no make it. I am posting it here if you have not heard it. His warm, casual, somewhat Texas swing style arrangement and vocal agility just made that song for me for the first time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5TZk2WnhLpjpZI I find though I have listened to it many times, I never grow tired of it.
