PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ASKING FOR VIDEO LINKS: Links to all videos included will be pasted under this comment following the premiere Arguably, this video is quite subjective, depending on what you consider someone's lowest/highest countable note. Please don't scream and cry if something is not included. Apologies if there are any glaring errors or if some notes are off by a tone/semitone, they are sometimes hard to pitch depending on the quality of the note and recording as well as the length of the note. Some singers featured may have a wider range than what's stated... in that case, I either couldn't find their highest/lowest (sorry), or they are able to sing higher/lower, but haven't showcased this either at all (Tim Storms), or in a significant example, or failing that, I just didn't know the note existed. Sorry. Some singers in this compilation you may not consider to be ‘bass singers’ (eg Bing Crosby, Leonard Cohen etc), it’s more of just a catchall term for low voiced singers so I can have a greater variety of people rather than just sticking to gospel bass, acapella bass and Oktavism. If there was a singer that you wanted to see in this video they may have been featured in part 1 If you're that desperate to know why I did/didn't include a particular note I guess leave a comment and I might get back to it. Thanks to Ntanzar for sending me some clips I didn't know existed. All clips will be linked under this comment after the video premieres

Nice! Although not the lowest note or widest range, IMO, Barry White has the most pleasing voice out of the group. Sooooo smooth. 🔥
@johndeeregreen45922 жыл бұрын
It's interesting with Barry White: he had a crazy deep voice but tended to hangout in upper baritone and tenor more than the bass notes he could hit with ease. I would argue Geoff Castellucci is more versatile, but only if you also like the really low notes.
@heliotropeskies59182 жыл бұрын
weird to me that he would hang out in the lower 4th octave as much as he did in his music tbh. C2, A1, G#1 and F#1 don't seem to be particularly hard notes for him relative to how low they are outright. based on his speaking voice i wouldn't be surprised if given emphasis in training the utmost extreme of his low range he could touch a note like E1, though we'll never know.
@bradycall1889 Жыл бұрын
@@johndeeregreen4592 He didn't often go into the tenor/higher baritone range, though sometimes he did. It wasn't THAT often that he went above middle C, but of course he did in some of his songs.

@@bradycall1889, yeah, looking through a song list with the range he used for them, he seemed to prefer B2-C5. Looking at that, though, he was singing mostly like a tenor with a bass thickness. A gem of a voice, regardless.

As far as total range, though, Tim Storms has the entire world beat. Since his last world record, it put his range from G negative 7 to G5 (12 octaves). Useable range, however, I believe you have it nailed pretty good -- except he has went above A4 many times live (D5 is where his falsetto starts to be iffy).

@@matthewdockray9745, I have looked and cannot find anything, either. I have personally heard him at Branson before, so I know he can... there just isn't any video evidence left out there. Which you can only go by what there is proof of, so that's understandable. At least there are many examples of Geoff Castellucci showing off his 5 octave range.

@@jameswilliams4566, , it's now a total of 12 octaves, which is insane. My total range is 6.25 octaves (E1-B4 in chest voice), which is rare enough. My most comfortable is G1 (chest) to B5 (falsetto) Guys like Geoff Castellucci, who are comfortable at over 4 octaves all the time blow my mind.

5:23 Yes I agree with this. His B-1 is a strohbass note in my opinion, which counts as vocal range. I think that his G-7 is 100% pure vocal fry and nothing else, which doesn't count at all as vocal range. And even then, a B-1 is not the most musical sounding note in the entire world. There are other notes that are worth our time.

idk about not developed but definitely almost never used. i say that because A3 doesn't sound especially difficult for him. he needs to belt to get it but his primo passaggio is just below that so that's kind of expected. id wager he could belt a bit into the 4th octave but probably couldn't get much or any higher than the D4-E4 area even if given the chance

@@heliotropeskies5918 You should watch Peter Barber's analysis and he will let you know who is a "bass" from all of these since he is a bass vocalist and also a professional opera singer Geoff's natural speaking voice hovers around C2 and occasionally drops to G1 in chest as well He can comfortably hit strong A1s in chest on regular basis as well and on mic he can project them quite comfortably Im not gonna discuss "off mic projections" since that is a separate genre of music and singing style .And it doesn't disqualify some Bass Singers you can argue about the others sure .. But Geoff has been classified by many vocal coaches and music directors as a "True Bass" . There are just different flavours under the Bass Umbrella and he is one of them
