I decided to do a comparison of some of my basses for your reference. I like how each bass has its unique color and timbre. The first round had la the bass going through a compressor only. The second round adds a Sansamp BDDi. For a final round I played slap for additional reference.
All basses have controls set to 0.
All basses tuned to Dropped D.

Man, that Wal sounds like the end of the world... The CT was pretty delicious, too. Weirdly, the Sadowsky sounded kinda the most ‘metal’, I’ve never really considered them especially great for that sort of thing. Then again, Newstead played them for years, maybe still does.

Carl Thompson basses vary a lot, because of all the unique timbers and designs, one sells on Reverb for 5,700$ A Wal Mk1 4 string with his setup would probably go for base price of 6050$ Shadowsky 4-string Vintage is like, around 5000$ as well. Alembics sell for around 7000$ on eBay, no official prices that i managed to find. Fender Jazz goes for ~1000$ if it's a Vintage series. The Streamer $$ is custom, so it's also around 4000$ Spector NS USA FORTE4 sells for 3750$ on Ultimate Basses 5700+6050+5000+7000+1000+4000+3750=32,500$ Jesus...

Love to see a Jason Newsted comparison or even all of Metallica. Spector, Wal, Alembic, Sadowsky, maybe throw in Cliffs Rickenbacker and compare all the best Metallica bass tones through the years. If you had a Modulus and a Jackson you could compare all the Metallica and Megadeth bass tones over the years. Love to hear the most famous metal basses with a pick and gain back to back. My favorite basses of yours is the Alembic Elan and the spector. When playing with a pick and gain do you have a clear favorite bass tone wise ? You have my absolute dream rig lol So thanks for the content it's been helpful. All the best

Thank you for the detailed comment. All basses you mentioned have a very cool tone by themselves. Playing them with a pick brings a whole other level to that.
