I appreciated this demo. It was nice not to hear slap or aimless noodling around on the blues scale. My favorites in tone were the Music Man and the Hofner. People usually say Music Man is brighter than other basses, but this one was one of the bassiest options you played.
@bapt_andthebasses5 жыл бұрын
Because of EQ. A MM should not sound like that by "default"
@rome81805 жыл бұрын
@@bapt_andthebasses Sure. But if they are all set "flat," as I assume these were, the Music Man would normally sound the brightest. If you roll back on the tone, of course the Music Man is going to sound darker. But I doubt he had the tone rolled back on only that specific instrument. It's true that a Music Man is more warm and versatile than it's given credit for, though.
@bapt_andthebasses5 жыл бұрын
@@rome8180 I'm not sure if you can roll the tone of such a MM, because it's only active (if I'm not mistaken ?). The description says it's all flat, BUT, a Cab simulation was engaged! I agree that it should definitively sounds brighter! A Music Man to me has some versatility but not as much as the 2 other classics we know as P's and J's, right? :)
@alexdattel27575 жыл бұрын
@@bapt_andthebasses My HH MM Stingray Special is really versatile. It has Bass, Middle and Treble controls, a setting that sounds like classic Ray, 1 that's similar to a J, 1 that's similar to a P and 2 positions I don't use too much.
@NamikazeKyuuga5 жыл бұрын
@@bapt_andthebasses Huh, you can "roll the tone off" in an even more powerful way since it's active (bass up, treble down). And the Stingray is more versatile than the P for sure and it's about even with the J. There's a TON of sounds you can get from a single sweet position pick-up + active EQ, from scooped mids slapping to heavy mids picking and everything in-between. P only gets you 2 sounds (tone up or tone down) and Jazz gets you a few more but not too many.
@robblestrange6444 жыл бұрын
Spector and Fodera were my personal favorites. Other brands just dont reach that sort of tone without Eq.

The other basses don’t meant to do by any means the same dry hifi fodera or cutting spector tone at all, each bass have it’s own personality, that’s why there many different bodies, scales, pickups, woods and builds on basses

The player is playing too close to the bridge for me to get any real idea of how these basses would sound in my hands. My right hand position is a good 3" further toward the neck. On a Fender Jazz, the neck pickup is my thumb rest. That's how you get solid rock tone. Playing close to the bridge like that leads to anemic tone, too heavily weighted toward high partials and no *oomph* in the bass register.
