I bought the sunburst Squier P-bass starter pack this summer, it included the tuner. If you want to start playing bass, it's a no-brainer. It's a really good instrument and a sensible amp for the money. Honestly, I can't understand how a £200 bass can be so good. I also don't know how it could be done any better. Great build quality, good sounds, and excellent looks. Run and buy!

The Ibanez is one of the best basses price wise in my opinion. I tried probably 15 of this exact model before buying mine, and they all felt identical quality wise and set up. Low action, low neck relief, and tones that surprise people.

I just bought one of these"EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO PLAY" kits last week. So far I have put graphite powder on the nut, I have intonated it, and I have leveled the pickups to transition smoothly between the P and J. I might need to check the straightness of the neck, and definitely level/polish the frets. Without leveling the frets it seems that the Standard G (1st) string nut slot is fine, but the nut might be too low. I want to explore string gauges. I may change the pickups. I have only been playing this bass this last week. One thing to note, the higher frets were a bit sharp, but most bass players, (especially beginners it seems,) do not explore the higher frets that much. These DO need fretwork, but that is my only real gripe. I have been having loads of fun playing around with this kit. The amp sounds great even at low volume. The bag is decent, the strap is pretty standard, and the cable is good. For the price of around 300 .00 USD I feel like it should have come with a tuner. It also came with 3 months of "fender play" lessons. It is funny that the first two lessons are about how to plug it in, put on a strap, turn the amp on, hold the guitar properly, and then how to pluck the strings. THEY COMPLETELY SKIPPED TUNING!

Starter packs used to be terrible when I first started playing bass. The amps would distort in a rather nasty way, the included lead would never work and often the setup of the bass itself would be sub par. The new players have it much easier now with these bundles, that is for sure.

They have the same specs. The pack only gives you two color options I believe: Black and sunburst. So you get the same bass regardless if you but it from the pack or individually; but you do get more color options buying it individually though.

@@alexmarenco2399 No, they are different basses. I have the Affinity Squier PJ. The starter pack bass has a poplar body, narrow tall frets and a vintage styled bridge. The non starter pack Affinity is an alder body, medium jumbo frets and a better standard bridge. The necks are also different. The starter pack bass has a skunk stripe on it, the non start does not. The pickups on the non starter pack also sound a bit better too IMO.

The jaguar will give you 2 options, a precision pickup and a bridge pickup. The p bass will give you only 1 option which is the precision pickup.

I have read a lot of bad comments about the Affinity series but those looks pretty good. Does anybody here have the PJ pack? Do you like it? I have doubts between that, the vm jaguar special ss and the ibanez ijsr190. I want to play some punk and hard rock stuff. What could you recomend me? I'm a begginer and i want to buy my first bass so i appreciate any help. Thanks :)

The new Affinity is decent (the ones with a PJ pick up configuration), unlike the older ones that are pretty bad. I would definitely recommend the Vintage Modified Series all the way. They are genuenly good instruments. The newer P basses of that series come with a PJ configuration as well. I have one P bass and had previously owned a Jaguar Vintage Modified. They are both great instruments, in my opinion the P Bass is better, but you cant go wrong with one of those. Definitely buy something from that series rather than the affinity.

Gavin Townsley No, the it is a precision bass with a jazz pickup in the bridge, so the body and neck are precision specs. Sometimes you can find a True PJ bass in electronics and build where you will have a p body and a jazz neck with the pj pickup configuration. I believe there is a fender Mexican pj special but that will cost you around 800-900 dollars

The Squier sounded thousand times better than the Ibanez (IMO), btw it's July and not June ;-) My beginner bass is a G&L L2000 (Tribute), bought used for 250 Euros. Couldn't pass on this one... :-D

Wait, so the actual Squire starter pack doesn't actually come with a tuner, but it comes with 30 days of free lessons? That's kinda stupid, to be honest. A lot of good those lessons are going to do you if you can't tune your bass first. They couldn't throw in a cheap tuner to complete the kit?

guitarist CHILE I didn't think you disliked them. :) What I meant is that once you start getting in to bass and trying tons of different ones you do start to see the same kind of differences as in guitars. I just think something about the low frequencies makes the differences less apparent through videos and to someone that isn't constantly listening for it.
