This is several levels of awesome. The amazing horn section, Dirty Loops being Dirty Loops, and the fact that they made this album ("Dirty Loops & Cory Wong's "TURBO") remotely and never met in person, not even for this video. They recorded it in Sweden and in the U.S. and, thanks to the magic of editing, they are together for this.

Most people think that Jonah's voice is similar to Michael Jackson's, but I instead hear Stevie Wonder. I recently also came across a reaction of sorts to this song, made by a producer, where they had separated Michael's singing and Jonah's singing, and compared them. It was quite interesting (turns out that Jonah is a much better singer).

Dude, that was one holy Batman reaction video! 💥🦇💥 I was completely spellbound, listening to your analyses of these bad boys (and girls). Cory approached the Loops during the lockdown years (they’d never met) and said: do you wanna do a cover of Thriller, and swing it in 12/8? Turns out he wanted to do a whole album with them, and the result is “Turbo”. Some tracks are more Cory and his horns-led, and feature phenomenal solos by various members of his group, others are more DLoops-led. He hangs back a bit in this one, but still, delivers that tightness and makes that groove happen. Check out all the other tracks as well, they’re all stellar! “Follow the Light”, another track from this album with a video, is badass, as well as some of the pure audio ones (you’ve got to hear Henrik shine with some solos in those other tracks, as well as his bass intro in ‘Zap’!!!) But the beauty is: everyone gets to shine in this collaboration ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved listening to this cover through the ears of a bass player etc. All those observations on bass technique… as well as everything else you’ve mentioned- real eye openers for me. That horn section: no they’re no slouches. Some of its members used to be (or still are?) members of the famous Hornheads, who toured, recorded and performed for many greats, notably Prince and MJ. One of them, Michael Nelson I believe, writes all those sick horn arrangements 🔥 Love how they sneak in the jazz to everything they do, including this one, big time. And during ‘soundtrack mode’ 😉 it cycles through yet some other musical eras, including Big Band jazz…what’s there not to like? ☺️ Those famous unresolved endings are fire too. And yes, this was filmed on two different continents, using identical props etc., and later edited together by Aron, the drummer of Dirty Loops. Check out an interview of Cory Wong with Henrik Linder on their collaboration, as well as the making of this track, on one of the ‘Cory and the Wong Notes’ podcasts :) There also is a series of three interviews with Jonah (bless this man’s voice ⭐️) on Stratele Studio’s KZbin channel. And yes, after releasing Loopified there was a hiatus of some sort. Then they released the Songs for Lovers-series, four instrumental tracks with Aron and Henrik flexing :) and one of them, Coffee Break Is Over” with Jonah on keys. They’re short, a lot of fun, -and still pretty mindboggling. After that they released Phoenix, and it’s mindblowing again. Very polished tracks with killer vocals, bass and drum chops for days 😱 Check out “World on Fire” for a sweet bass solo, or “Work Shit Out” for a killer keyboard as well as drum solo 🔥🔥🔥 Jonah has also released a solo album since, totally worth checking out. Btw, his solo take on MJ’s ‘Bad’ is another must-watch, I feel, as is his “Coffee Break”, featuring Richard Bona on bass. So much to hear, so little time 😉 But you won’t regret it. Oh and yeah, Dirty Loops did a Samsung Galaxy ringtone version (2016). Not to be missed!! 😉👍🙏

a couple fun facts about this and other cuts from this same collab. this was filmed during the height of the pandemic. both bands recorded the videos in different studios and melded them together after the fact. the horns are part of Cory's band, called the Hornheads. they're arranged by the trombonist/euphonium(-ist?), Michael Nelson. they're super tight, even live.

Henrik Linder is such an awesome bass player. I am not a massive fan of dirty loops and just their genre but at the same time I love listening to them for their talent. But something I can't get over is the weirdly sexual looks he and the other band mates give each other throughout this and many other videos. There is just something hilarious about it.

They are not looking at each other in this video/session. The guys on the left (guitar and horns) are Cory Wong and the Wong Notes and they recorded this on a different continent (North America) from the guys on the right, Dirty Loops who were in Sweden. Dirty Loops recorded first in a studio (for visual reference for the video I've read that they were looking at the girlfriend of the drummer), then Cory Wong and his team replicated the studio look to give a mirror feel and then recorded themselves looking at someone else I imagine.
