I bought fender rumble combo 40 with my 1st bass two days ago and I'm really glad that I did. Does wonders, its light, quality is outstanding and built in overdrive with few extras like vintage mode which is able to transform my ibanez sr300eb into a relic is just too good to be true. Honestly spend more on an amp than on a bass if you're on a tight budget. Even in the future you can upgrade or get better bass and keep the amp Peace

Been playing for 11 years. I'm impressed with all of the 3rd generation Rumbles (other than 15). They are absolutely incredible in all sizes and are fairly priced. Fender didn't take the panned reviews of the 2nd generation lightly and took the time to make it right this time around. I have a 25 for practice and a 500 for rehersals and gigs and I love them both. My Gen 1 TC BG250's motherboard being shorted (toneprints = internal motherboard needed) ended up being a blessing in disguise. I'd recommened any 3rd generation rumble other than the 15 since for so little additional cash you get so much more with the 25.

My 13-year old daughter just started playing. She has the 25 watt Rumble and the Sterling Stingray bass (with active electronics). For practicing in the bedroom without disturbing everyone else, it's plenty loud and light enough for her to move. In fact, she barely has the volume on at all. The only downside vs the 40 watt is that it has an 8" speaker. Quite honestly, I could have bought her the 15 watt version and saved $40. They are definitely the way to go if you have a kid just starting out on bass.

Gamer_ON Publishing Co. Will this be your only amp? If you can swing the extra $100 I'd recommend the 40 instead. The 25 is perfect for you at home but you'll be glad you have the 40W with the 10" (instead of 8") speaker if you take it out for a jam. Plus it has a PA line out just in case. Just a more versatile unit IMO.

I went straight for the 100w version which is about the same weight as the head unit of my big rig while also offering some great EQ options and a very usable drive channel. My first amp a million years ago was the first generation Fender Rumble 100 (it had a chorus effect built in! So 90s!). I sold it because I had "tube lust" and it was a horrid mistake. I'm confident that the amp would still work, and I'd still be playing it. Recently I got "big eyes" and bought the Rumble 800 head and a 2x10 cab based solely on the EQ usability and the contour and vintage preset buttons being exactly what I would dial in for that sound anyway. The overdrive on the amp has been pretty useful as a "volume/presence" boost when using the footswitch. You can dial in a little bit of crackle that will make you stand out in a group without needing to nuke everyone from orbit with the master volume knob. I can't recommend highly enough the Rumble series of amps for somebody just getting started - it's a crazy good value.

I went into GC with my mind set on getting a Rumble, but was not a fan of the sound. Ended up getting a Hartke, and the buzz isn't as bad as the review implies. I have a Hartke HD75 and I can tell you this: You're right, when set flat it sounds awful. But, it has so many EQ options (more than any other amp in it's price range) that most probably you will find a sound that you like, it's just hard to find it, thus making it not so suitable for beginners. The most unacceptable thing for me is it's weight. It's incredibly heavy for the sound it produces. This, and the lack of a Line Out output.

I use a Rumble 40 with a Gold Tone uke acoustic base (nylon strings). The amp is light at 18 lbs, sounds good, super easy to carry around on a collapsible cart. Sound is powerful enough when surrounded by 20 ukuleles. Often I don't have AC power so I use an Aviva S180 power cell (weighs 5 lbs) of which the amp uses a mere 20% of the cell after playing for two and a half hours. This amp works. BTW, I am chronologically challenged and I am my own roadie. 😉 In addition I also carry a collapsible music stand, a guitar stand, a comfy folding chair, a notebook (music) and I'm back playing with a group after 50 years. Right on...

There are combos with 10" speakers that bring real thumb. Only those 15 Watt are never enough to give enough impulse to move some air. I am talking about my Ibanez Promethean 5110 that sports a 500 Watt @ 4 Ohm amp and a 10" 8 Ohm speaker. This equals 250 Watt @ 8 Ohm. Now this little Box is loud enough for rehearsal with two guitarists and a drummer, even bar gigs are possible. I highly recommend going used when looking for a small practise amp, and going for at least a 10" or 12" speaker. 50 or 75 Watt are not much, but will do a much better job than the 15 of the Acoustic. I have to throw in the elder Peavey combos, and even Ampeg builts some fine little practise amps. Make sure to go for not less than 50 Watt, 100 Watt are better. Ok, they might be not as lightweight as one of this 15 Watt combos, but, see, 15 Watt here, 100 Watt there..... A good find, a sleeper amp, is the Marshall MB 60. It has a 12" speaker, and with 60 Watt it is loud enough to give you some serious tones. The MB 60 is the first (smallest) amp of the MB series with a solid state clean- and a tube channel that allowes tube saturation or distorted tones. The MB 60 is loud and powerfull enough for rehearsal and small gigs.

It's all very subjective. I tried the Fender and wasn't overly keen on it and I actually bought the Ampeg BA110 - it's a very good amp in my eyes (or ears !!) - each player will have to try several amps before deciding - I wouldn't decide on what amp to buy based on a youtube video, helpful though they are. Another thing to take into account is what type of bass you're going to be using (or more than one) - the output and sound of your main bass will dictate largely what sound comes out of the amp.

I also have the Ampeg BA110. As my first bass amp. I bought it because it was the only used "ok" option. Mine was $120, about 60 less than if new. I am very new to bass and have been happy with it. I'm not crazy for the scrambler button. I am not disagreeing with the video. I am only providing my inexperienced opinion. I mainly play metal and guitar and have been fooling around with coloring the sound anyways with pedals. I was curious to how well the Rumble series held their own and this video is very helpful in that department. Thanks again for the great content.

I am very impressed with Fender right now. the Ibanez bass is a dream come true I'm going to put a set of flat-wound strings on it because my fingers hate the round wound strings that it came with. The bass is made very simple yet very precise and accurate, well made. 28.6 inch scale is real easy to handle 👍very nice and strong P & J pickups. A lot of bang for low bucks, just add a decent input cable and you're ready to go👍👍👍😎 (Check out the "WAH" effect on the amp)

My 25 watt GK mb108 kicks butt with an 8" speaker. I also have a 200 watt GK mb112ii but I actually think if you take wattage out of the equation that little 8" cabinet sounds better. The speaker responds quicker with less mass to move and it's not all about the size of the speaker but the cabinet design has a lot to do with it. I think a 500 RMS watt combo with six 8's would be awesome!

After not playing for several years I decided to pick up my alembic and start playing again in order to combat a bad case of COVID induced boredom. Having gotten rid of my SWR and GK heads and some 1 15 and 4 10 bottoms I had to get something to play through. At 70 years old and really no desire to play in a band again one of these little amps fit the bill perfectly. So off I went to guitar center to see what I could see. There were ampegs, Hartkes, fenders and a few others but the one that stood out to me was the peavey max 100. btw I brought my alembic to try out all these amps. I realize any opinions are subject to individual tastes. After narrowing it down to two choices what I found was the rumble 40 distorted at relatively low volumes. The peavey didn’t start to get cranky until I pushed it pretty hard. What really impressed me and contributed to my decision was build quality, fit and finish of the peavey. It felt much more sturdy than the fender. I’m a bit disappointed that you left this great little amp out in favor of the inferior eden and acoustic amps. Hopefully you can do a little review of the peavey in the future.

Played guitar for years and I own Line 6 spider iv 75w, line 6 x3 live multi effect board and when I started looking for bass amp I went to line 6 to find out that the did made small bass amps but they stopped. So I looked at other companies. Really liked Ashdown amps that Pilichowski uses but nothing had combination of decent power home/ practice with friends capability with something more than just a clean sound. I looked at Rumble 40 but I still wanted this line 6 possibility of playing at the wedding without whole pedal board and not using only one tone for different genres. Then on ebay I looked for Line 6 studio 10 low down bass amp! I bought it for 100 pounds with delivery. It has 75w and dir out if needed. It has clean, rnb, rock, grind and Phaser presets. I love it! It's only 11 kg (22 pounds) and it's a cubic foot :) if you are a beginner get yourself that amp. Nothing better for the money. Ok you will have to buy used but you are a beginner either way.

I owned a Rumble 40. Could not sell it fast enough. Great amp if you like mudd. The Hartke HD75 is head and shoulders better than the Fender. I have zero noise from it. Yes it is heavy, but it is a practice amp. Never leaves the house.

I got the first version of the Ampeg 110 about 10 years ago (top controls, no built in distortion), it's been a great little amp. The preamp and eq sounds great with my base, it's enough power to play with a few other people in a basement, and the features like aux in, effects loop, and line out make it really useful.

Just on the fabric cover of the Rumble - it's not as much of a durability issue as you suggest. I have been using the Rumble 200 for over a year now and the fabric is as new. It's a fantastic amp for pretty much anything you throw at it, from vintage blues to a modern almost Muse-like sound if required. It's super versatile.

i always loved my fender rumble 40 v3 and i'll tell you this, i gigged it live with a 30 piece choir and 5 piece band, run that little combo through the venue system, i propped it up on some milk crates to my ear level height and played next to it.. no problem to hear my bass with drummer, guitar, keys and sax.. i will probably buy the rumble 2x10 500w or rumble stage 800..

Great work as always! Fender also sells a much cheaper Fender Rumble LT25 which has loads of features with it. So we're left to decide between 40w or 25w and extra sound features.

I was deciding between an Ampeg BA108 and a Rumble 25 last year for kicking around the apartment. Went with the Ampeg. Gotta say I was worried it would sound small and boxy with the 8” speaker, but it sounds great. Exactly what I like a bass amp tone to sound like. I’m guessing by your bass and your playing that you must lean toward the “modern” bass tones. I thought the Ampeg sounded much better than the Fender in your demo, so I’d say it’s down to personal taste. P bass or violin bass through my BA is the classic bass tone which I prefer.

I have done this test as I was looking for a small portable rig for bombing around with . Add to the list the TC BG 250 and the G&K. Finally I tried by far the smallest one sitting in a corner of my local shop .. A Traynor small block 110, gave it a whirl and was instantly sold on size ,weight and great tone, I have had it now for 4 years and am still sold.

Your review was excellent. You supported all of your opinions with facts/reasons. You did not waste time on boxes that you don't recommend - I have had to fast forward through other similar reviews because, you know, I really don't care who came in 4th place. Also, you kept it fair competition - you did not compare a $1000 amp to a $200 amp. Finally, you did demos. There are other videos with only feature descriptions...useless.

That Rumble sounds good. My personal requirements are thus: no less than 12 inch speaker, 30 to 50 watt, ported cab, simple eq, hard to distort or overdrive. Headphone and media jack are nice, but not necessary; line out is also appreciated.

Secret Fender ad. IMHO the Acoustic B100C is the best budget 12" 100 Watt Combo that amp blows most other amps in that wattage range "to smithereens" or just holds its own the best for the dollar. I bought my Acoustic 50 Watt 10" Speaker for $80 and then bought the 100 watt 12 incher and it's got enough punch for most applications.

I just got this Rumble 25. Been playing Bass for 1 year and made this upgrade from a Joyo 10 Watt and a Positive Grid Spark (40 watt). This thing is def cleaner and louder than my Spark. You can’t compare 2 5” woofer to an 8” . Despite its lower wattage than the Spark, it def doesn’t seam like it. The Spark has incredible highs but it’s flaws are in the low end. This Rumble 25 is a real Bass amp and the enclosure is very well engineered with 0 distortion even with all settings 100% just to test it. Just perfect for what I use it for which is jam with the music on my IPhone.

Something worth mentioning is that the Rumble 40 has a line out. And I haven't damaged the mesh over the speaker on mine at all. Btw, not only is the Rumble 40 lighter than the Hartke - it's also lighter than the Rumble 25, which is made of MDF rather than plywood, so has more glue to add weight.
@BassBuzz
@BassBuzz 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a line out on a practice amp is a cool feature. It's not quite a pro-level line-out, in my book, because the GAIN and MASTER knobs both affect the output, so there's no way to adjust your speaker volume without changing your send level to the house, but still better than nothing! The mesh on my Rumble 40 is still holding up fine too, although it mostly just stays at home.

The Fender Rumble 40 is the only choice in that price range to consider. It is a really loud 40 watts and the sound is impressive. I think all the other amps will leave you wanting more. Oh also I would stay away from Eden products unless they are the old made in USA models that were unbelievable sounding amps.

The Warwick Combos are very nice if you want a clean amp. I tried a peavy first: While situational with bass (if you are after that kind of sound, it was nice), that thing was terribad when used with guitar or pluged to an phone/laptop for a ryhthm track. The warwick on the other hand sounded real nice. Guitar and rythm track was no problem and both sounded good. If you want an amp, that does NOT color the sound, the warwick amps are great.

I absolutely agree! The Fender Rumble series is terrific. The sound is more than adequate, the Flat/vintage buttons and overdrive are nice, and the 40 model only weighs 18lbs!! Finally, an amp you can carry around without having to go in traction afterward. I've actually used a Fender Rumble 40 for gigs in medium-size clubs, particularly when you DI into the house PA. Great amp, overall.
