Good haul from the show, and your stop on the way home. We use those sabiki rigs in the ocean to catch bait fish before heading out to sea. They might catch shiners down here too. You will love those MB Spark Shads on an Angler Tungsten Eclipse head. I know I do. And Deep Creek Lures is on my radar to buy some goodies. #DEEPCREEK #100percentwatchsquad

Me too man January is full of expos and I need to be on the lake. It's killing me.
@mattfleming863 күн бұрын
When my folks had a houseboat on lake F we used a sabiki rig a LOT at night under lights to catch alewife and occasional gizzys. We'd tail hook them on a circle hook and swim them towards the bank and slam walleye, bass, cats, crappie and hybrids. All night family fun when the bass weren't busting bait hard on the bank. The herring family definitely loves a small sabiki. Gizzards were less drawn to it so it was like a 25:1 catch ratio. Lighter crappie/panfish rod, and enough weight to control it. With livescope I guarantee you can put it in the center of the baitball during the day. Vertical presentation. Just move the rod up and down smoothly. I never used twitching or hard jigging. Just keep the little "flies" moving. At night it was almost too easy.. and I honestly enjoyed catching the bait. A 8+ inch gizzard puts up a hell of a fight for the record 😂
@BassGeek2 күн бұрын
Yea I can't wait to test these out. It should be fun.
@normsweeney31162 күн бұрын
On the sabiki rig , tie the barrel swivel to your main line and attach a weight with an eye loop , like a drop shot or any other style. Adjust the weight size accordingly to depth or current. Best fished vertical but can be casted out and retrieved and is usually for catching bait fish in saltwater but work just fine in freshwater.
@normsweeney31162 күн бұрын
The weight gets clipped on the other end with the snap swivel. Tight Lines

Thanks for showing us what you picked up and giving more info behind the baits!! I mainly dropshot those small 3in panoramas, they have crazy action and live bait look to them BUT the smell definitely effects the bite. I recommend soaking them in a shad scent, you may be happier! Thankful for all you do! Can’t wait for the next live show hangs!! Get out there in the #DEEPCREEK!!!

Man a bunch of nice lures I've been watching guys and here throwing those 9 in glide baits seem to work I hope they do for you
@mattfleming863 күн бұрын
Glides absolutely DO work but you have to be absolutely committed. On 98% of lakes thry aren't a tournament lure until you need to cull. Due to the low number of bites you don't know if it's "right" or not until you have hammered all day and found out the hard way. That said, it'a absolutely the way to throw your shouldef out and catch the best bass of your life. But you have to give it that "ride or die" attitude and put in the work.
@BassGeek2 күн бұрын
Yea I learned the 9in or above is just the way to go. It takes upsized equipment but you just get more followers and bites on them than any other size in my opinion
@mattfleming863 күн бұрын
Nessie in hickory shad (purple mist on the side) held my PB for a couple days. Nailed a PB on friday and then beat it on the next sunday. For the PRICE, they are awesome. You can do things to cheap glides that you won't do with ABS or resin baits. Bang those bluffs, Hank. Keep it TIGHT on the wall. I work the nessie as hard and aggressive as I can while keeping it running right. Medium-fast retrieve. Move water. Bonus points when you have some good shadows. Rub them registration numbers off 🤘

Nice I figure they are a good try. Kind of dip my toes in and see what I think.

Use sabikis all the time to catch live bait for CA halibut. Cut off 1 or 2 hooks because it’s a nightmare to manage all 5. Hang a heavier weight on the end than you might usually use… if a gizzard shad or bluegill gets a hold of one of the hooks (without enough weight hanging on it) your sabiki will be a knotted nested mess. Finally, buy some power bait and put a small bit on the hooks then just jig them up and down through the bait ball.
@BassGeek2 күн бұрын
Awesome tip! Thank you! What kind of power bait do you suggest for freshwater shad?
@garyalexander7024Күн бұрын
@ you got me on that one. I’ve only used sabikis for salt water bait. I just want something thats stinky and gummy enough to stick to a small size 12 or 14 hook. I also use Gulp sand worms because they are easy to cut into tiny pieces. For CA halibut I generally target small perch or jacksmelt that live in the salt water bays. PS. I have often seen freshwater bait fish I wanted to identify and never even thought about a sabiki!! It’s a great idea but when you start using that thing you will see what a giant pain in the butt they are to manage. That will be fun video to watch.
