How To Wire and Install a SubWoofer Into an Enclosure

I'm nearly ready to finally install this custom subwoofer into by car but there is one more step. I need to wire up the sub and bolt it down. Wiring is super simple if your using a single voice coil but can get a bit more complicated if your using more than one. I show and explain the differences between wiring in parallel and series and where to actually place the wires. I bolt it down and were ready to finally install this thing. Thanks for watching and have fun!

Your welcome, depends on if its a dual voice coil or 2 separate speakers, dual voice coil on 1 speaker hooked like that, you wouldn’t hear anything because they cancelling each other and fighting against each other but you might burn them up if played to long, a bit of speculation, 2 separate speakers hooked like that would play out of phase

No gasket? Doesn't mounting straight on to the carpet like that create an air leak possibility? I am thinking of drilling and gluing in some metal female threads for the holes to bolt in instead of the wood screws.

I have a question. When I dropped my subwoofer in the box, the speaker wire is actually running out of that same hole, not the port, and it's being pinched by my subwoofer. When I try to turn the bass all the way up my music cuts in and out. Is it because the wire is being pinched or is it because I need better/thicker speaker wire? I'm running 2 Skar ZVX's at 1500 RMS each powered by a Skar 1200 1.D by the way.
@4WheelKid

probably because it's being pinched and not getting good connection. you don't need really thick speaker wire because it's alternating current

@4WheelKid

nice. 18 may be a bit small but it's not as a big deal because it's alternating current vs DC so you don't need as big of a wire gauge for speaker wire compared to dc amp power wires

@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid 3 жыл бұрын
thanks! you don't need thick wire for the speaker after amp because it's alternating current only need thick wiring for direct current going to the amp. then it's converted into alternating current (which is the music signal) imagine it like when you have DC you have to move all the electrons from one point to the next so you need more room but with ac it's vibrating them back and forth so you don't need as much space. that's why they use such small wire gauge in homes even know your running 1000 watt microwaves and stuff because it's running on ac. thanks!
@tomgarcia9200
@tomgarcia9200 3 жыл бұрын
@@4WheelKid I'm no expert, but I know that wire you're using is not AWG and it is not copper, but instead copper clad aluminum. Looks to be roughly 18awg if it were to be measured. Which does not have enough mass to carry the amount of power this sub is rated for considering aluminum is only 60 percent as conductive as copper. Im not suggesting you use 8awg wire or anything absurd, just something closer to 14awg to avoid any bottlenecks. Ive seen aluminum wire fry under heavier power loads. Again im no expert, but im certain home appliances are able to get by with thinner wire because the voltage going into them is much higher, compared to 12 -14 v of cars
@rmblwgn
@rmblwgn 3 жыл бұрын
@@4WheelKid you are totally right about not needing thick wire for AC coming out of an amp. But 18 or 16 gauge aluminum wiring is like 20 gauge copper. Always use a 16-gauge copper minimum.. i use 14gauge and 12 gauge with 1000w and up... no need for goofy 8 gauge Speaker wire

@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid 3 жыл бұрын
lower ohms can be louder but your amp needs to be able to handle it. for a single dual voice coil sub you will want 4 ohms to achieve 2 oms. a 2 ohm one can achieve 1 ohm but a lot of amps can't handle that

I have a (one) 6 inch bose Rich base woofer from the console of 05 Yukon. Needless to say my 91 suburban that I put the console in doesn't have the exact wiring to match up. How would hook this up to my head unit. It has the two wire connector on either side of the speaker just as in you're a video only smaller. I have two open subs RCA Ports in the back of the head unit. Any advice or direction would be most appreciative.
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid 2 жыл бұрын
you won't be able to connect rca outputs directly to a speaker since they are only low level signals. you will need an amplifier, I'm assuming your woofer is not self amplified? and those are voice coil inputs your talking about. I would first measure or find out the ohm load of those voice coils, then get an amplifier and wire your voice coils in either series or parallel depending on what your amp can handle. this video might help a little more, kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnLbYZSwnLh6jtE

What did you mean swap them they will cancel each other out!??
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid 3 жыл бұрын
if polarity is swapped on only one voice coil one will push while the other is trying to pull and there will be no bass but could burn up the voice coils potentially. if you swap polarity on both voice coils the sub will work normally but will be out of phase with the other speakers, but easy to change that with a phase selector switch if the amp has one or just swap the 2 speaker wires on the amp output
