“Bringing this issue to light”. Makes it sound like this is a widespread issue affecting many users that no one is talking about. I put my phone in airplane mode when ready to take off, fly in areas without congested signals, and haven’t had a signal issue.

Well actually, when I first reported it nobody had mentioned it as I pretty much had the first flight review on KZbin. So Phil's comment was correct. look through the comments to see if this is a widespread problem or not. Contrary to popular belief sticking your phone in airplane mode does absolutely nothing to help signal as you're not using your phone's WiFi connection. I am however very glad to hear yours is all working fine. Happy flying ☺️

@@Chimera_Photography it is a widespread issue , many FB group users have had this and worse. I have. New version and my signal drops and black screen, lost connection and no feed. Old version was perfect, no issues. I have now downgraded the firmware back as Gavin did...

@@GAVINHR Just got back from my test site. Friday with 1.03 I got to a point where I lost signal completely and RTH initiated. Today, at the exact same place and altitude, signal strength dropped to three orange bars but I never lost signal and continued to fly back to my home point. I'm going to remain on 1.02.0300 until DJI gives us a reliable update!

This guy made me swap my Mini 1 for a Mini 2, and iv never looked back. Honest, original, helpful reviews !. I noticed some stutter on the new firmware. Was told by dji to download 1.4.0 and it seems more reliable and can now shoot at 30fps 4K again 😁

@@digpal90 no you certainly won't have ! The word I have from DJI ( yes I talk to them also I just don't pretend were best friends ) haha! I've always advised people to be on the latest firmware / app updates but after speaking with them recently they said as long as your drone is working fine with no error messages prior to flying they won't have an issue.

This is a pure software/firmware issue that DJI should adress asap. There was no change to the transmit power from the drone or the controller what so ever. I measured the eirp with a spectrum analyzer. So, now we have to wait for DJI to resolve this issue asap, since summer is here and we want to fly as much as we can! Nice testing! (by the way i am experiencing lag like this to the AIR2S as well, not only the Mini 2)

It's not a compatibility issue between the Firmware and the Software bro... It's just a Firmware issue, which doesn't have to have anything to do with transmission power being reduced directly... I say that it's probably just a non optimized feedback loop and hence the drone struggles to provide enough transmission power... Sweet PS: I may be wrong, but that's what I think... 🇧🇬😁🛸

Thanks Gareth. Like you, I own the Mini and Mini 2 and the most notable different has been dealing with the wind and the improved connection. Well well well. Yes I've already been notified of their lengthy discussion with DJI and claiming my fix using assistant 2 invalidates warranty. If that person knew where this fix came from that claim is mildly amusing! I'm glad he went to the lengths they did to provide a fix for a problem they denied existed eh! This video, back to back firmware versions same day, 3/4 minutes apart same area same conditions same phone same everything = conclusive. Cheers for your support Gary 👍

Would love to but flying those distances now I would just get grief from people so keeping away from it as without CAA permission even though you can fly further than 500m people accept that's the limit so it's not worth the headache to be honest

Oh.. I actually like this update especially after testing it with the smart controller. But seeing that this is a common issue, this will probably be adressed in the next update just like with previous mini2 problem with the battery.

Hi mate. I'm waiting on my children to backstep the update. But I've noticed that my mavic mini will not keep disconnecting now. Reconnect 2 minutes later disconnection again. So I'm using a old phone with old settings to use mavic mini now 🙃🙃🤣. And thanks again mate 👍👍

Have you tested the battery firmware? I have three batteries fully charged in the charging block and all show 4 leds of charge after one week. Before I would see 3 leds.

Yesterday I had a different problem: When I was 3000 metres away, there were temporary disconnections, which is actually nothing special. But for no reason at all I got the message: "the homepoint has been updated-please check it on the map". I panicked because of the lost return point and because I didn't know the area very well. Fortunately, an automatically triggered return still had the unchanged old homepoint. This false message could also be related to the last firmware update.

Isnt downgrading the firmware or not upgrading the firmware against CAA drone safe rules which states ensure your drone has up to date firmware, what happens if you crash does it invalid your insurance or make you in breach of point 11 of the drone and model.aircraft code, and possibly making it an illegal flight .

Hi Paul, depends how you look at it, the primary responsibility is to ensure the flight is safe, the CAA then advice to keep firmware up to date and in normal circumstances that is usually a good thing. As in this case there is enough evidence to show the latest firmware is potentially less safe than the previous one by the way of more RC / UAS disconnects I very much doubt the CAA would have a problem. Of course anybody would have to check with their own insurer if it would invalidate a policy, I have provided the way to help people fly safer, further than that it is up to the remote pilot to ensure they comply with their local regulations hence stating this workout is for informational purposes only. I don't encourage anybody to perform these steps I simply post the results.

Hey Gavin, just something off the topic. " Battery maintenance ". Is it good practice to charge my batteries to about 50% before putting them away after flying? As I believe one shouldn't leave them fully charged or very empty either

hi gav ive had small issues with the last 2 releases on android , i had my first ever app freeze on version 0300, i havent had any signal issues on 0000 yet , i did a test run yesterday, and got a good signal ,i did seem to have constant high wind warnings with very little wind , will the wind back on the firmware take the batterys back aswell ?

One thing I would like a comment on is that when I did the update,I tried to update the three batteries I have, separately, switching off the connection each time I changed the battery. But on all three I never got a message saying update the firmware! Now what I would like to know, being very new with this drone, is, is there another setting I should look for in order to update the battery?

Another thing I am confused about is the staement on the battery that says it is a "LITHIUM ION POLYMER" re chargeable battery. Is that different from a straight LITHIUM ION battery. Sorry I am probably asking a very basic question!!🤭

Nicely done, thanks. I experienced same thing on my new Smart Controller with the Mini 2. I hope it is patched soon. I actually bought a Smart Controller and I only have the DJI Mini 2 because you can now use HDMI output on Smart Controller to fly with goggles (mine are FatShark Dom. V3) and it passes through the telemetry to goggles also! So I'm giving huge kudos to DJI for that but would like a fix for the lagging video feed and the connection issues.

No difference in signal quality for me on 01.03.0000 Not even 1 “minor signal error” reported on Airdata. Do you manually select a transmission channel or do you leave it on Auto? I’ve been flying various DJIs for nearly 5 years, always on Ch.153 and never had a glitch within 500m (distance you tested at). Leaving the channel selection set to Auto will allow it to switch channels and cause dropouts. Just a thought as I had this with the Phantom4 when connected to an iPad. Due to that configuration, manual channel selection was disabled and I suffered many dropouts even at close range due to Auto channel switching. The fix, strangely, was to change the iPad language to American English which enabled the Manual channel selector switch again 🤷‍♂️

Yes I always leave and do my tests in dual band unless I state otherwise, for example non the Mavic mini I will always use a manual channel. as you rightly said switching to manual would take away the whole point of ocusync.very glad to hear you're not having issues at all but as you can see though the comments this seems to be notes by a lot of people. @@GAVINHR The different experiences that people suffer with the same aircraft model could be down to different batches. I call them the “Friday afternoon” production runs, where workers are too busy watching the clock to knock off for the weekend 🤣 No two aircraft are 100% identical and that’s why we see issues like this pop up all the time. Glad to hear you take the time to delve into the Transmission settings and go manual, as this is often overlooked and should be the first place to turn with anything to do with video dropouts. Keep them videos coming Gav 👍

Absolutely an issue. My Mini 2 always loses connection after being in the air for a couple of minutes for about 10 seconds. Starts to come back and when it reconnects, I cancel the RTH and continue with the flight. Very frustrating.

Yep same happened to me a couple of times. I now close all my apps and restart my Note 8 before flying. That problem seems to have stopped. I think the new update is more memory hungry on the phone so need to make sure no other apps are trying to use it. Give it a try and see how it goes.

Good work Gavin. Although i haven't experienced any issues with mine up to yet, and obviously others have too. One thing would be interesting to know, was this flight done at a weekend, as opposed to the last one? i.e. different day of the week? the EMF from the buildings adjacent could of been less at the time of each flight. You may query that, however, it could be possible. Being a Radio Ham for many years, i have tested different scenarios with different frequencies and interference in my time. One example, you could be in what is know as a "Null" where the frequency response is nothing for a split second, hence why the mini 2 auto switches from 2.4 to 5Ghz. this could cause Lag. I'm not suggesting for one minute that there's not a problem with the different firmware's, just that there is many factors that it could be. Would of been interesting to see if it happened whilst flying over the fields or a more rural area. Great test tho mate and good upload!

Could it possibly be device related? Perhaps the update consumes more resources therefore causing the device to lag slightly, especially during screen recording. Just a thought as I am not experiencing this with the recent update. I’m in the US and using an iPhone 8 Plus.

Yep, mini 2 is taking longer to lock sats before take-off, and there is def more lag on the video with the new firmware. Although I haven't lost connection. I don't like to roll back in case it invalidates warranty/insurance. So, fingers crossed dji fix this asp.

Im just wondering people..if this new firmware update has included some mods allowing the smart controller to comunicate with the mini 2? And its this causing some people some problems...? Ive updated the app and firmware and latest android on a samsung a40..ive had no problems..tested at 700 meters coast location..solid connection..no lag apart from when pressing record..jumps a bit..thats it..dropped 1 or 2 bars RC connection when i flew out if line of sight around a cliff..just as previous versions had done..so no problems here so far

Hi there! Not seen you comment before 🙂 very glad to hear you are having no problems that's always good! I fully accept not everyone is having this issue and a good thing! Even the smart controller some people are having some issues with, I have a friend who has the channel tech drone media who tested this with the smart controller and reported some issues but again - some people are fine. See some of the videos I film really require me to have a smooth video feed as I'm often filming ships which are a moving target so this latency stops me doing that, as.much as I'm a youtuber I'm just a consumer at the end of the day wanting to be able to use the product how I used to be able to.

hi Gavin i enjoy your hack videos im having trouble i've been on drone hacks bought licence loaded mavic mini to computer logged in starts but as i go along to hack it tell's me i have FCC do i accept that, but going into garden it say's not connected to drone what should i do, i'm 73yrs of age but seem i'm not taking in the info some how it's mine bogging. can you help. keep up the good work.

Hi, did I just see that the dual band option has changed places with the other two? I'm no software expert but can the button have been changed in the GUI but the functions not moved?

No I don't believe so? On Android the dual band button is on the left, possibly iOS on the right?

on my s21 ultra i wish i could record in 4k 30f sec. With testing gimbal up and down, there is feed back lag at range i dint notice before at 24 frames a sec 4k.

I also have the same phone and same issue, I believe this only started once I updated the firmware. I belive dji are looking at this but our ultra is not on the supported list so watch this space.

@@GAVINHR yup, me doing very well, thanks. Was very busy at work with Projects, and then I recently got promoted to Manager or Engineer at my job. Every since then I've had way way less time to fly... I still do fly both my Mavic Mini and my Mini 2, but just weekends only... Sweet 🛸

Unfortunately, I also faced the same issues. Lag in video and gradual signal reduction when the drone reached about 400 meters. Because I am new to drone flights (never had a drone before), I got scared and turned it back. Dgi should be more careful when releases a new firmware update, because drones are expensive toys and many potential pilots are beginners, so if something bad happens, it is hard for them to get in troubles trying to proove that was not their mistake.Besides for many people, bying a new drone it's not that easy!!!!

Lovin the vids Gav…however the test needs to be more granular……. A long range test over urban then over fields…..THEN upgrade to the new firmware and do the same again…….this will give a more in depth conclusion……400m isn’t conclusive and lends itself open to debate….when you buying the new FPV ??

You're absolutely right and I would like to do further but over here the general "accepted" allowed distance is 500m - if I go beyond that I will just have people from the UK complaining so working with what I have I am afraid!

I'd say those are definite results, buddy... That's about as fair of a test as you could do. I have yet to update just because I haven't had the time to fly since it came out, but I'm going to try it soon and let you know what happens... Does the lag relay to the SD Card in the drone also, or is that footage all good?

I rolled back both of my Mini2’s and the signal performance and smooth video feed came back. I hope DJI acknowledges the issue and fixes this in a new release. With that new firmware I experienced the same exact random video lag.

Let's hope so! All I want is for everyone to have nice working machines, myself included as I use my drones a lot. I don't like reporting issues - far from it but it was there after the update, I investigated, I proved it, I found a solution, I proved this morning that it works and that's me done with this issue now 😃 thanks for watching as always and I've really appreciated your feedback and confirmation.

@@GAVINHR awesome Gavin, I remember watching it loose full fpv the first time you done it, it was a bit better this time, but it's not perfect, I really want DJI to watch this Footage and maybe come out with a new update or put it back to the way it was, I have to be honest, I don't want to fly that far just incase, I've never had a problem yet fingers crossed lol, but I honestly think the update to give better FPV in my opinion it doesn't need it, it's not an FPV drone, and I think that's where the problems have come from, I could be wrong but you have the video proof to prove it, As much as I love the Mini 2, mines called Maximus lol it makes me not want to fly it, and now it's just sitting there, anyway Great Review, let's hope DJI fixes this problem, 💯👊

Hi 👋 it’s happening to me also mate. The mini 2 is my first drone and when I updated I could tell straight away. I was pretty gutted I updated tbh. I’m not very good with tech to start with so I’m not very confident in rolling back to the last update. In your opinion do you think dji will fix this problem? As I don’t really want to have to hack it back to the last firmware as like I said I’m shit at computer’s 😂 ………. new sub 👍🏼

Thank you very much Paul! This is exactly why I'm posting videos about it, it seems pretty obvious and the number of comments suggest there is an issue. I'm sure DJI will fix it ( if they think there is an issue ) since I posted the rollback video simply too many people have done it and said their drones quality has improved. DJI corrected the iOS charging pretty quickly - I have faith ! Thank you for the sub

I've always been open and honest, as I've said countless times I only post these videos when I'm beyond any doubt that the results are correct. I do my best to help people always and if you look back at all my testing and videos on my Mavic mini, when it comes to range and connection I really know what I'm talking about to notice a difference! I found Gavin's channel and he was the 1 that had me sold on buying it, I've never regretted it, I love my little maximus lol, just hoping DJI do something about it, mine picks up Satellites like asap lol but some people don't, all we want is to fly the same no problems no issues, that's all, anyway Happy Flying to everyone, I'm sure they will fix it, 👊💯

I've tried many times in the past to advise people in the other person's videos you wouldn't use ND filters. I got asked to stop commenting on their videos. People still bought them and now are using them / spent money for no reason. I tried mate ... I tried ☺️

I genuinely really appreciate that. When I do my videos I try my best to leave little to interpretation and try always give the proper advice. Even if it means me doing extra research I will do that to ensure my videos are accurate. I post good reviews when I'm impressed I post honest reviews but as you may of figured I apply common sense to everything and I never jump into saying anything negative unless I can 100% show it's accurate and repeatable to be sure. Thank you very much for the kind words I really appreciate it. KZbin is big enough for all creators but hopefully eventually people will see to come to mine and be confident in the information provided. Thank you for watching !

I don't have video cache turned on. My total cache on the DJI fly app including aircraft firmware is 150.81mb. Tiny amount which will make no difference whatsoever.

No absolutely not! Don't roll it back until you fly it and if you are encountering any problems at all. This is not affecting everyone so please just give it a try and see how you get on as you may not have any issues at all. Rolling back should be a last resort and only if you are dissatisfied my friend. Give the drone a fly and see how it goes with the latest firmware you could he totally happy with it 🙂

You're quite possibly correct and over a greater distance it would be more apparent but I'm working with a 500m distance limit unfortunately due to regulations so this is all I have to work with 🙂
