This is a very calm song that is in Bastion, when you see a girl named "Singer"
you listen to her singing this. (they game just says she is singer, but later it says her name is Zia)

I played the game, and I loved every second of it, this song is my fav by far for those dead-brains who said Trump should use it, ha ha ha, the fact that is a very aggressive song (relative to the game setting) is so funny because it would make more sense if the foreigners would use it instead of Trump

What I get from this song is that things do not hold forever. You can build all the walls you want, build them as high as you want or take other measures to defend your city or society, but eventually it will fall and shit will hit the fan. However this does not mean walls should not be build, its just that they can't be expected to hold the threats off forever, history proves this right, any society that ever existed had its rises and its falls. Beautiful song in any case, really fitting for this gem of a game.

It is a folk song of the Ura, but it's also a thinly veiled threat from them to the Caelondians for everything the Caeldonians did to the Ura.

First time I heard this in-game, I had to just stop and let it play all the way through. Couldn't help but imagine The Kid just walking over, sitting down while Zia plays - and the two of them relaxing in the sun on top of a shattered world. More than I ever expected. When listening to the lyrics I can't help but wonder if it's almost a threat. 'So build that wall...we'll be there before too long.'
@Leafia_Barrett

When you consider the rest of the game? It kinda is a threat. EDIT: Turns out, it's an Ura war song, taunting the Caelondians. The parts where it sounds like she's saying "gonna/gon' build..." is actually her saying "go on, build...".

Everyone's saying this song represents resentment and is supposed to be alluding to the Ura. But I think it can also mean Zia's hope for the evacuation ending. "Build a city on a hill" is her hope for finding a new place to inhabit and creating a new home. The others can feel free to build walls and close themselves off, but it doesn't matter because before too long, Zia and co. will find a new home. "We'll be there before too long" isn't saying they'll be at the wall: it's saying they'll find their new destination and find happiness, whilst building a wall only encloses regret and sadness. It won't make anyone happier.

sinnombre124 The controversy over this slight detail is amazing. As far as I can tell, it's Gon', as in an abbreviation of Gonna or Going to. Sadly, Go on or G'on also fits the song's tone and adds a second meaning to it as well.

I like all the people thinking this song is supporting building walls. When in reality it's not, it's sung from the perspective of a marginalized group chiding how the wall that's being built will just end up falling. 'but now you've got nowhere to run'.

@MrGuvnah Couldn't be because their society is shitty because their resources were stolen by a neighbor more willing to lie, cheat, steal, and murder, then build walls to hoard what they've taken. Nah. You can totally rebuild out of nothing, just by being good folks. Then again, the Ura won by letting Caelondia tear itself apart... that works, too.
@YHLGguitargeek
@YHLGguitargeek 6 жыл бұрын
MrGuvnah Dude, this song is a from an invading army to a defending one. The invading army tunneled into the city, and are semi-sarcastically encouraging the defenders sink their time and resources into building a defensive wall because that strategy will not only fail to prevent an attack from below but will hinder the escape of anyone within the wall. I get the feeling you did not play the game at any point, but still take the time and effort to vomit your politics all over over this art.
@leonmercury3732
@leonmercury3732 5 жыл бұрын
@@YHLGguitargeek I'm pretty sure it's a less literal wall, and more representative of people dealing with the catastrophe. The Ura have emotionally closed themselves off. People like Zia don't want to do that, they actually went through properly grieving. It's futile to bottle up emotions (build that wall), you have to give them a chance to pass, and explore your options (digging holes/tunnels for travel), and think of the aftermath of your actions (the city on a hill)

Allegorically it is, from the perspective of the Caelondians. But this song is written (and sung by) an Ura. Pay close attention to the wording, the charachter in the song isn't in favor of the wall, they are waiting for the wall to crumble, working towards that goal even. "I dig my hole you build a wall." "Someday that wall is gonna fall." The fact that she's chosen the allegory of digging a hole isn't some meaningless choice either, sapping (digging tunnels beneath walls) is one of the most effective methods of destroying walls in classical warfare. The whole point of the game is choosing between these two perspectives, the Caelondians who want to return to old glory and smite their enemies, and the Ura who are working towards a new world. Zia is just such an Ura, it's not really an accident that the singer of this song is advocating against the restore Caelondia ending at the end of the game.

All the people that see the wall as something positive... ... you guys played the game, right? You know what happened to Caelondia? In the end, the song is about the fact you can't preserve the present. It's always changing. If you try to keep hold of something, it will slip away. Which, by the way, is really well reflected in the end of the game. Also undermines the theory the game is about a really bad break-up.

I kinda like the open ended ending of the Bastion. if you want more similar stuff, try Transistor. Its by the same people and also has good music, and the same Narrator.

Sir Cheddar A prequel to Bastion would be cool though. There's a lot of backstory that could be explored in another game.

Can't do a sequel without messing up the ending. Canonizes a choice. maybe a prequel =/ but then you loose the cool art effect, kind of becomes a different game set in the same universe.

bryan lim As people have already said, the game, unfortunately, will not and should not have a sequel. But it is not because the game bad. I feel like the core message of the game would be lost if a sequel were made for it. If a sequel was made, then the core driving plot device, the Bastion itself would lose all of its meaning because of how pivotal it's place was from start to finish. Sure, you could have it be about their adventures, and have the Bastion just be a hub and all, but the point in the Bastion was what it stood for. And that is lost with the end of the game because it will ultimately have served a purpose regardless of which outcome you pick that would make it's purpose in any future game relatively less meaningful. Could it have a sequel? Sure. But they would have to do something radically different, because the Bastion was the focal point in the game. Both mechanically and plot wise. In a second game I could not see that being the case without it feeling gimicky or ignored.

Walls always end in wars. It didn't stop the Mongols, it won't stop the tides. Build it high as heaven, build it high as babel, build it high as god, . And they said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. Godspeed the fire, godspeed the water, godspeed the end.

This song depresses me somewhat though, because of the sentiments which it expresses. It's sung from the Ura's point of view and it tells the history of how they split apart from the Caelondions because they wanted to stay in touch with nature and the gods. The song is sad because of the references to the war and how the Ura and Caelondions couldn't get along. The Ura just wanted to be in peace, but the Caelondions couldn't let it be. That's what I have to say. If you read this, thank you.
