The Ura, Zulf and Zia's people, were miners. The idea of them undermining the wall and butchering the people of Caledonia, trapped in their own citadel, was the irony of the song. Like in most conflicts, everyone just hated everyone else, then they all died, all except a certain Kid and his friends.

I kinda regret I didn't play that game earlier, because I'm not usually interested in short indie games, but I did play Hades last year and loved it so I thought Bastion could be worth a try since it's the same devs, plus I felt like I needed a chill game because of personal issues. And as soon as I met Zia for the first time and heard her sing I immediatly recognized Ashley Barret, since she also voiced and sang as Eurydice in Hades. Now I just finished Bastion and man, I don't regret having bought the game at all, even though I had trouble following the lore and story because I focused on the gameplay and couldn't really keep up with the narrator, still a masterpiece from great devs

Bridge your dreams to reality.
@Belzughast3 жыл бұрын
A good song can be interpreted in many ways. It can be fear, sadness or failure, singing to you and telling you how futile your coping with reality actually is. As just around the corner there's a disaster of such proportions that will break down all of your defences. Even teases you with freedom ''someday your bird is gonna fly'', which can be seen as ''your death''. Different take can be having a narcisstic or arrogant attitude, which is the wall itself. And it's lonliness singing to you, mocking your absent sex life with ''someday your bird is gonna fly''. Or it's changes that sing to you, no matter how static and unmovable you think you are, they will come as it's the nature of the universe. Entropy. It can also be seen as squable between lovers, with the voice having some hope in returning to previous state but being fatalistic in assuming that before the relationship has any chance of surviving, the lovers will become strangers again. You can feel the invisible walls build up as the relationship deteriorates, you step very carefully as not to fall in one of the trou-de-loups that ends it. Or indecision. A missed oportunity of not taking any action in overanalyzing a specific situation that requires instant solution. Deep, deep song. Edit: One more for fun, It can also be a tale of a fox hunting near a city diggin holes and being annoyed about people building walls as he tries to hunt down the hens.

@@SaltpeterTaffy Caelondia is an imperialist and vaguely fascist aggressor that engaged in multiple genocides of the Ura. The main protagonist was explicitly stated to be picked upon by others because he looked different, despite the fact he was a born citizen of Caelondia. The game's primary good ending involves rehabilitative justice for Zulf, disobeying Rucks' wishes for activating the Bastion's reset function, and leaving Caelondia to ruin. Caelondia straight up needed to die to end the cycle. Yes the song is a threat, because Caelondia was an evil nation and needed to die because it demanded other nations be subservient or be erased. You can threaten the wicked without compromising the moral high ground. Following the logic that the game and song presents reveals we should engage with either reforming or abolishing any nation that follows in Caelondia's footsteps.
@SaltpeterTaffy4 жыл бұрын
@@JakeN482 There is no real-world analogue to Ura following this interpretation. So far the ONLY connection to Trump is the wall. The intent of the wall is not to keep away an invading force looking for revenge. That's my point, if the Cael and their wall represent Trump's America, then the Ura, a vengeful guerrilla force, represent...illegals? Is that what illegals seek to do? No. They come here because they like what we have, not because they want to see it burn.
@JakeN4824 жыл бұрын
@@SaltpeterTaffy Your analysis is both ahistorical and overly literalist. The Ura need not represent just one demographic, but the multitude of cultures that had been squashed or slighted by America. The US has been involved in a imperialist campaign in Latin America for centuries, with a variety of different ideological and materialist justifications, through dozens of administrations, and with many different bags of tricks. Furthermore the USA has engaged in genocidal behavior several times against the Native Americans as part of Manifest Destiny. The country has a history of racial violence against Italian and Irish immigrants during the eras in which they were fleeing from their countries. The Japanese were interned during WW2. African Americans suffered both slavery and an American apartheid. Hell, even the internally facing War on Drugs creates incentive structures in Latin America that create cartels that their population wants to flee from. The Wall is just the latest incarnation of America not wanting to own up to the fact it's been a deeply destabilizing force for many countries and races, and that it wants to shut the door after robbing the wealth and resources from nations it positions itself as a paternalistic figure over. The current justification for jailing immigrants rather than legalizing them is "fuck you got mine" at best and fascistic at worst. If the wall gets built, sentiments like those in the song will get expressed.
@SaltpeterTaffy4 жыл бұрын
@@JakeN482 I disagree with your assertions, I disagree with your rhetoric, and that you would call my words "literalist" instead of literal suggests prejudice. You want me to agree with all that irrelevant blather about America's history of oppression. @@SaltpeterTaffy 1) "Literalist - Noun. literalist (plural literalists) A person who adheres to the literal representation of a statement or law. A person who translates text literally. (art) One who works in the style of literalism. " You engage in this type of literary analysis when saying "There is no real-world analogue to Ura following this interpretation." by demanding that a real world analogue must be a single group. 2) What assertions are there to disagree with? Caelondia was founded as a colonialist endeavor. The kid was discriminated against due to having white hair. Zia was discriminated against despite being born in Caelondia. The Caelondian empire invaded the Ura's land for a mix of materialist and fascistic reasons. Caelondia demanded assimilation of the Ura within the borders it had conquered. It built a wall to control Ura movements on Ura land after strangling them economically. The Caelondians worked on a secret project with the goal of genociding the Ura. All of this are facts in the game. All of these facts have real world parallels in the history of the US. Hell, one of the lines in this song, "Go build that city up on a hill", has a real US parallel via the "City upon a Hill" line in John Winthrop's lecture prior to him and his colonists leaving for what would eventually become Boston.

I remember hearing this song when I was in middle school(I think during 6-7- 8th grade?? Idk) hearing this again brings back alot of bad and good memories from when I was young, now I'm on my last year of highschool, and just listening to this song is nostalgic, I forgot how much this song use to cheer me up all the time, sometimes I just wish I could go back in time and relive a few good places that I have in memory, but that's just that, a memory that you can replay in your mind but never experience it again in real life 💔

Anyone remember that old Minecraft music video for this song? They even put it on the old official Minecraft website.
