The problem with noise deterrents is that hungry bears get tolerant to air horns and perimeter alarms. There is no substitution for highly concentration hot pepper bear spray, which is usually a whole lot more potent than even Fox Labs 5.3 that police use. It's illegal to carry bear spray to deter humans for that very reason. Once a bear gets a whiff of bear spray, they get the message. The best solution is to carry bear spray and a noise deterrent, and if both fail, obviously a firearm.

I’ve transported bear spray across the US/Canada border many times over the last 25 years. So long as it is an EPA-registered “bear deterrent”, you can declare it. It’s the pepper spray (mace, Jogger Fogger) that isn’t allowed in Canada.

Another guy did a review. He said you are best using a #50 fishing line, if you use as a tripwire. Anything smaller than #50 would snap the fish line before it popped the top and activated the alarm. I have an old saying believe but verify everything. I've been told I have trust issues...I don't care. One of my many faults.

Interesting device. I wasn't very interested in it previously but your presentation has started me thinking about it again. I wish I had my pepper spray from patrol days.. it had 10% capsicum and was very directional with good distance. Thanks Jim

glad it was useful :) but yeah I wouldn't mind something with a little punch but good thing we don't have to deal with big animals that often out in our local hiking areas

Wondering, would this work against domestic dogs threatening to bite your head off?

I was really hoping you would test that against a real bear in the forest. Someone needs to invent a robo-human. A life sized blow up doll that inflates instantly from a Co2 cartridge. An animal approaches, you pull the plug and throw the doll down and run.

i've only run into a bear once and they are pretty skiddish. However that would have been my idea scene. I'm sure someone must have done the blow up doll decoy on kickstarter by now?

Looks like a handy little device. We have regular bear sightings down at our camp just outside of Caledonia in Queens County and my wife asked for some repellent for Christmas, so maybe this is the answer. I'm not keen on having a cannister of spray around. Thanks for the helpful review.

Hello, I found the horn of the air Asser handy, but I did not find it in the Amazon shop.. Do you have the link in question to communicate to me if you dedicate it? Thank you for answering me.

Who pays for shipping when the battery wears out?

hmmm good question. Assuming you pay postage to send it back, might have to email them tohello@robocopp.com to find out.

Sealed battery because they want you to buy more of their product. Because its a safety device its sealed to be childproof?? That's straight bs since alot of other personal alarms have a battery cover with a screw to avoid children removing the small batteries. Nice alarm but making it a factory only type battery or whole unit replacement is simple selling hype....

If you go to Amazon, the product comes with replacement batteries and there is a video on how to replace the batteries yourself. You pull the “plug”, twist a quarter inside the slot and replace the batteries.

This is the same as personal alarm devices. Definitely not a new concept.
