My buddy and a crew harvest 30k pounds directly from a cave and nobody has ever gotten sick. No masks. He said its when the guano gets wet that you can run into problems.

In Australia there is danger of alyssa virus (a relative of rabies), and horses are at risk of contracting Hendra virus from bats, so it would pay to be careful around bats, particularly in the Northern states of Australia

We should always be careful around wild animals, that is very true, but carefully coexisting.

There is an abandoned building close by with a pile of guano on the floor . Its been accumulating there for years. Whoever is reading this , with experience, would you harvest it for fertilizer and how much to put on a 3'x10'area for growing tomatoes?

Yes get it all one plant one teaspoon of poo one gallon water lightly once a week with the gallon really good sht
@BatBnB Жыл бұрын
You can definitely use that for fertilizer. Please ware gloves and a mask to harvest the pile. Guano is a very good fertilizer, and a little bit goes a long way. It is best for non-food plants as well.

Yes, that's true. Guano was also once Texas' largest mineral export.

How about viral diseases? Isn’t guano how COVID-19 finally spread to humans? What are the risks of viral diseases that can be spread to humans in gardening with guano based fertilizer?
I heard Green Berets talking about making explosives with dried bat guano.

So true! This is oftentimes the biggest concern people have, not realizing that they are surrounded by wild animal poop outside.

What about putting bat houses in trees?
@BatBnB2 жыл бұрын
You want to make sure that there aren't a lot of branches. Branches shade the bat houses too much, and can be a place for predators to hang out. We recommend bat houses being 15 feet from the nearest branches. That's why bat houses on a building or a pole tend to be more successful.

What about bat bugs that come from bat feces. Similar to bed bugs.
@BatBnB2 жыл бұрын
This can be a possibility with larger colonies, but not always the case. Installing your bat house on a pole can be an option if this is a worry for you.
@BatBnB Жыл бұрын
Great question. The bugs do not come from the feces, but are found where the bats are. If the bats are outside your house, you have nothing to worry about. That's why it's important to have bat houses like ours, to help keep bats comfy- but not in our own homes.

Yes, it can accumulate when there are large numbers of bats in a cave. There are many places that will safely harvest that guano for fertilizer
