I did an experiment beginning of our last season here in SA on one of my bhut jolokias. Growth was much much bigger than what you saw in your experiment. My Guano plant nearly doubled in branches and size to the regular compost mix. I did take much longer to start fruiting, but once it did, there was just no stopping it. At some point I had 40 fruits at the same time on the tree. The others only maxed out 7-10 fruits on the tree at a given point.

this was an excellent experiment to try, without experiments like this, We cannot improve our gardening techniques, The first showing of the plants, I immediately saw two, big differences in the characteristics of these two types of fertilizer on the Peri Peri, pepper plants, my training from watching this channel must be starting to show. :-) I think the flowering of the Vericompost, appears to be much more adventitious to the plants, health and pepper production. What's also interesting is, as you pointed out... Was the plants overall growing structure was different, one seem to grow tall,.. The other more bushy and produced flowers. This information should help us all in our next planting. this might be considered a small sample... But I think the growing characteristics are dramatic between the two, so it's excellent information.

Bat guano is high in nitrogen. Vermin compost is closer to a 1-1-1 mixture so the bat guano will have darker leaved and have more explosive top growth. If you want big fruits off it. All u need to do is feed it a banana tea. And reduce the bat guano feeding. That will give you a huge boost in potassium and phosphorus and you'll get massive fruiting

How interesting. This is so debatable so I would suggest a control in this experiment being repeated. Vermicompost (worm castings) are very good but my question is how does bat guano compare to rabbit manure? Over all a fantastic experiment! Did you compare, or at least know the NPK of the guano and worm poop prior to mixing? I wonder if the guano had a lot more Nitrogen, might explain why the plant wants to vegetate longer and faster
@ChilliChump4 жыл бұрын
Bat guano typically has more nitrogen than vermicompost. But it also depends on the diet of the bats that you got it from (some bats eat insects, and others eat fruit).
@mihavogric11824 жыл бұрын
Nice experiment, but like you said yourself, two plants are not enough to determine if bat guano really effects pepper plants like this. I think the most precise results can be achieved by cloning peppers, so you have like 20 pepper plants with same genetics, and then you plant 10 with guano, 10 without. It would be nice to know from which spieces of bat this guano came from. Some bats eat only fruit, some eat only bugs, some eat both....This is a huge factor that effects on nutriens in guano.

You mentioned that guano is acidic and grows more acidic as it ages. I'm curious if you tested the soil pH at all after the 3 months? I had an issue this year where I wasn't getting many flowers on my peppers, but they were thriving otherwise. After a lot of testing and tweaking to no avail, I decided to take a soil sample and send it to the lab for testing. It found that I had been feeding my plants what they should have needed (NPK ratios were ideal), but my soil pH was low (5.4). After a bit of research, I came to the conclusion that the soil pH was too low for optimum Phosphorus uptake (hence the lush vegetative growth and minimal fruiting). Essentially, the Phosphorus was there but the plants couldn't use it like they wanted to). Over time, I was able to raise the pH and the flowers started showing up abundantly! These things don't happen in a vacuum, so there is the possibility that weather or some other factor could have been at play, but I for one am curious if the soil pH could have been a factor (would really like to validate my hypothesis at home) . Maybe something to consider checking if you try this test again... Either way, super awesome experiment and would love to see more videos like this :)
@ChilliChump Жыл бұрын
Hi there! I have tested actually. It never dipped that low in pH. Many of the fertlisers used today can drop the pH quite a bit, usually because they are assuming the water you using is neutral or alkaline. @u0296106 Жыл бұрын
Maybe the soil pH was too low (he said that guano lowers pH over time) for the plants to be able to effectively use it? Curious what the ph was at the time. Nitrogen and potassium can still be utilized more efficiently at a lower soi pH than phosphorus.

@ChilliChump9 күн бұрын
@videoarchiv6938 Actually, that's not accurate. Bat guano typically has a significantly higher nitrogen content compared to vermicompost. The NPK values for bat guano are around 10-12% nitrogen, 3-10% phosphorus, and 1-2% potassium, depending on the type of guano (e.g., high-nitrogen or high-phosphorus varieties). In comparison, vermicompost usually contains only 1-3% nitrogen, 1-2% phosphorus, and 1-2% potassium, depending on the feedstock used. Vermicompost is fantastic for improving soil structure and releasing nutrients slowly, but it's not as concentrated in nitrogen as bat guano, which is better suited for providing a quick nitrogen boost to plants. This is also evident from the results of this experiment. If anything, bat guano is far from limited in nitrogen-it's one of its standout features!
