Tahun 1941 Batavia terlihat sebagai kota modern , maju yang teratur dan damai masyarakatnya ...pelabuhannya sudah maju dengan kapal2 besar , sungai ciliwung airnya masih dalam bisa dipai perahu ..berbagai kegiatan..mobil, trem kota, bus, dokar sepeda, dll, pasar , stasiun semua tertata ..bangunan modern ...lapangan udara...udara mungkin masih sejuk ...kota Batavia .kuliner tradisional ...Jakarta yang damai waktu itu terlihat di video ...Trima kasih videonya ..

Yes, it is indeed sad to see how the Dutch treated the Indonesian people, they should have negotiated with Sukarno and Hatta before the war and transferred power to the Indonesian people instead they had to be kicked out loosing every thing unlike the British who were never kicked out of their colonies rather chose to grant independence and form the British commonwealth, they left these countries with the English language, Indonesian don't speak Dutch

…not quite accurate. I met some elderly Indonesian people in the 80’s and 90’s that still spoke Dutch. I also met young Indonesians that did. They learned Dutch to be able to study books about their own country written in Dutch. For instance books about culture and habits of indigenous tribes written by Dutch scientists.

Because they were so in love with the whole country and the sensitive very kind people. They did not want the killings. The goodbye was to fast, spoiled by hysterical Sukarno and the dangerous killing Japanese. The Dutch still had many Plans, to make the Colony for all better. And much later they could give it back to the lovely people.

Because it was like that before the Dutch ever set foot on the islands. Each tribe each island each greater power in the archipelago fought for dominance. Up until the Dutch and British took hold. And a lot of Indonesians back then had it good. Better than most do today. I'm sorry but I know Indonesia and it's corrupt to the core. With only the capital and the rich elite hoarding all the money. When disasters hit the outer islands, tough luck for them. And even the regulatory bodies at the government level take bribes... Around 100,000 Indonesians by Dutch military actions. Around 2,5 million by the Japanse during the Japanese occupation (also due to malnutrition and poor living conditions in the camps). I don’t think you should compare it to Nazi Germany though as the Nazi’s killed because of other reasons and their numbers are estimated around 5 million.

It’s said way to easy to compare any unwanted force with nazi’s. Just as lot’s of people get compared to as well these days. If someone is wrong in any ones eyes, he’s just like the nazi’s. Of course colonialism wasn’t good at all. It brought only good to people who were white, mostly. Indonesian people got educated by the Dutch, they gave them a home (sometimes a loving home) and food. The Dutch just didn’t kill Indonesians like Germans/nazi’s did to jews for example. With that said, also the Indonesians killed lots of “belanda’s” to. Does that justify anything? No. Not at all sir. Times were just different then.

Yes, the freedom and nationalistic movement in Indonesia is originated from native Indonesians who got an education. They were the leading and philosopher branch of the freedom movement and realized they were just opressed and indeed enslaved by a foreign enitity. Even i must say, this was only the case on Java. For the rest of Indonesia (which doesn’t have just 1 sort of citizen, the country has 100’s of different cultures and people) they didn’t know what was happening. Until the time the dutch left, the lands were open to colonize for the new Indonesian governement. Which colonized and enslaved the outer regions of the archipelago. So how are you even better of?

Also i am Bugis not from Java, and the people in Celebes aware especially what you did to our sultans, dutch took their land. There was literally bugis ppl who fought against the dutch . Those indonesian who didn't know what was going on mostly the tribal ppl who were not exposed to the world. This is what happens when a colonizer trying to white wash the history of their past. Dutch didn't even fully learn about what they did to our ppl in their school, not so surprising

Ik ben Japans. Bedankt voor je waardevolle video. Vroeger was er veel racisme. Een Nederlands kind dat in een landhuis woonde en een arm Indonesisch kind dat op straat goederen verkocht, hadden het moeilijk. In die tijd konden Indonesische kinderen niet naar school, en zelfs als ze goede cijfers hadden, konden ze niet naar de universiteit. Het waren echter wij Japanse soldaten die het onderwijs voor Indonesische kinderen mogelijk maakten.

Totale onzin. Waar denk je dat Sukarno, Suharto etc op school hadden gezeten? Sukarno had op de technische hoge school in Bandung gezeten... :/ Ja in de jaren 30... Daar was gewoon een hoge school. En daar zaten gewoon Indonesiërs op school. En als je denkt dat iedereen in Indonesië op school zou moeten zitten net als in Nederland. Newsflash, dat was zelfs niet zo in Nederland in de jaren 30... De nieuwe leiders van Indonesië na de onafhankelijkheid hadden allemaal hoger onderwijs gehad aan scholen die er waren. Die gerund werden door de Nederlandse overheid tot toen.
