A follow up to my previous video on "Batch Scanning film with a Digital Camera" to answer any questions, and help further show my workflow when converting negatives with Negative Lab Pro. I'll be going live while converting some negatives in Lightroom from a few different rolls of film.

Thanks Hashem. I didn't make the live stream, (2AM in Scotland) however was well worth the wait. I've been using NLP for a little while with good results and have found your approach and tips beneficial. Keep up the good work!

Good video. It's been several years since I've scanned negatives with my DSLR, but I used to set a white balance in-camera off a clear piece of the film leader when shooting the negs. Of course, back then before NLP, I'd bring the "scans" into Lightroom and all the sliders would be inverted. I'll be using NLP pretty soon, so this video was very helpful. Thank you!

Amazing video! Thanks for the tips and showing us your workflow, it's been very helpful as start point to develop my own. I have one question: what's the temp on your lightsource? If I missed it, sorry! Thank you (:

also, instead of scanning backwards and flipping horizontal, why don't you flip the film vertically and flip vertical? wouldn't that keep the shots in order?

Hey, I scan emulsion side up, but still in the correct order as exposed on the roll.

The essential film holder seems like the best option for the money but it’s not possible to scan large format, right?

That's right, unless they were to release a 4x5 mask. Until then, an alternative for a good price would be the Pixlatr

@@pushingfilm Ive contacted Andrew after my order and he told me that they are actually working on a 4x5 unit. Its currently in prototype stage and they will offer an additional mask in the near future. So good news then.

Also do you shoot raw compressed. I short raw uncompressed and the files are like 80mb. Using a Fuji xt5

I shoot full Raw on my canons. Maybe during filming I accidentally had a different setting?

How come you work on a copy and not the dng? Like dust correction and what not and why jpg and not tiff
@pushingfilm
@pushingfilm Жыл бұрын
I work on copies so that the Lightroom controls aren't reversed. Jpeg because I don't personally see enough benefit with TIFF in my tests to justify the increased file size and hard drive usage. (I'll sometimes do tiff if its a frame I'm planning on printing or editing a lot)
