I don't know anything about the genesis of this short film, being on the studioADI channel I guess I expected more creature effects etc...however, I really liked it, nicely shot, acted, edited...and a fun script. It left me wanting more, maybe a part 2?

TLDR: Aside from the slayer's robotic alien persona and last guy's lol costume design, this was actually pretty entertaining. The slayer's smiley facial expressions with James' awkward oversharing were well put together and showed nice chemistry in those moments (but outside of those moments she turned back into a robot alien, which starts to grow on me, but has no context about why she's so robotic or uneducated about basic Human culture; I see cool backstory expansion potential there) Partial breakdown review & commentary: 0:00 I liked the knife spin at the beginning showing a relatively relatable situation fiddling with something while you're bored, and is a passive enough scene to let the title sink in with the music that starts 0:23 I'm seeing something off about the lighting on the slayer here that conflicts with the background's lighting, which takes me out of the immersion for a bit because it looks like a soap opera scene, but aside from that, I think the timing of the music and the cuts showing James looking at the slayer from a distance work really well to paint the scene 0:26 Considering the context we learn later about why James is there, his facial expressions show nicely how he "comes back to reality" after making a decision to take action, and his fiddling with the tie to prepare himself to look good for her is a nice touch, too 0:31 - First point: minor detail, I'm assuming this is meant to portray the slayer *turning* a page, but I see her clearly opening the book into the middle, because *all* of the pages are in her left hand - Second point: She's holding a pen, but there's no writing on the pages, and I didn't see any writing on any previous pages, so I feel a disconnect about why the pen is even there. I think either removing the pen, or adding some kind of notes on the page, would add to the immersion and sensibility of the shot - Third point: minor detail, this may not matter because the knowledge that this is a "Vampire slayer manual" hasn't been revealed to the audience by this point, but it definitely looks like a novel based on the arrangement of text, especially because of the the dialogue quotation lines on the pages 0:33 Again, I think the lighting looks unnatural here. For comparison, the lighting at James' original table at 0:11 and 0:28 looks much more natural against the background 0:35 It looks like James walked straight into a stage light, where the lighting of the restaurant is a warm yellow, but he's suddenly immersed in a cold blue light from the other side, making one half of his face yellow and the other half blue, which breaks my immersion a bit 0:46 The book's cover having an aquarian star is a nice touch for a vampire slayer manual Alright, that's all I got time for right now, but hope it helps, and let me know anytime if you want more perspective

This is definitely a series that I would watch. The only thing I can say that I did not like was her way of talking. I wasn’t sure I got what was going on with her. Is she alien? Foreign? is she from another time? James, you were so natural in this part. very likable character.

I was thinking, are you ever planning to release the pilot version of The Thing? I feel like it was extremely unfair how you put so much effort and passion into the original and the studio removed the majority of the effects like they were nothing. I've been looking into the film's history, and it really bummed me out. You guys did an amazing job on the effects, and I'm sorry it had to end so badly.

Yeah, most of the fighting was clunky, the dialog for the two heroes was great... especially them playing off one another, plenty of wonderful blood, not much dynamic about the sets or the use of the space inhabited by the characters, but it was Super Fun!!! I think better foley work would've shot the rating Way Up! Oh, and the lighting was good. Still Super Fun to watch and I'm sharing 'cause I know friends and family that'll like this!

I'm not gonna be mean, because love studio ADI, but this dialogue was so obnoxious. The main actor is great and made it work a bit, but on top of that, the pacing is too fast and "undid" the guy's job. I wish there was a writer who was very good with low budget, to contact ADI and make a monster movie with top tier practical special effects
