Bath in Fashion invites Barbara Hulanicki to tell the remarkable story of how she created BIBA
and how a mail order pink gingham dress in May 1964 changed the course of fashion history.
She talks about the Stones, The Beatles, Yoko Ono and Twiggy hanging out in the BIBA store....

BIBA is one of the many reasons why the 60s and 70s were the best decades of the 20th century.

Loved Biba, bought my first dress in Abingdon road, then the wonderful Biba canvas boots Ken High St. Then before I knew it, I worked for Biba at Barkers Ken high st. What a fabulous time it was. I started there when they first opened in 1973 and left in 1975 when they closed and British Land took over😩. Best times ever, loved it, the fashion, make up and we had huge staff discounts. I still have a few pieces, that I still wear😍❤️

I love reading this -- thank you -- Biba formed a huge part of my fashion aesthetic as a very young American girl (12) or 13) and I still see the influence in my closet decades later. Ms. Hulanicki walked so Barney's could run, and I'm mourning its loss still. How lucky we are to have caught these moments, right?

I remember going to Biba as a kid. Magical place. I remember the giant record player we could clamber on and the roof top garden and restaurant

There were 3 Biba shops before the Big Biba at the old Derry and Toms. So it lated for 10 years. It was so different from anything else, l used to hang out in the Kensington Church Street all the time, such happy memories.

I worked as a sales assistant on the ground floor of Derry & Toms in 1962. In those days of very high standards in all departments they even had a regular gentleman floorwalker dressed in an immaculate morning suit named Mr Priest. And if anyone had deserved the title of 'gentleman' it was that man.

I lived at the bottom of Abindon Road when she set up her first shop in an old corner chemists. I had no money for the clothes but just to cram in with a lot of other young girls was so exciting. By the time she made it to Church street and then Barkers I was too big for the clothes which were cut extremely slim, sod's law I guess. It was a wonderful time to be young and in London.

My sister did a spell as a sales girl in that shop before moving on to 'Chelsea Girl' in the King's Road.

i really loved the videos you showed about the store - i didn't know that biba sold food too. I guess it was a whole experience going to biba's...Really interesting to see that it was a pioneer in young women's wear.

Hey guys, are you still intending to put up some more content to BIF? May I suggest perhaps, a look at fashion in terms of photography / photographers?

i love this but i don't understand that girl just being edited in with her pointless commentary. "she was so unique" ....why are we hearing her? really weird.

how has it been 50 years of biba, if their one and only store was only open for four years? I just don't see why were celebrating 50 years for a brand that closed its doors after only four years, and in the freaking seventies at that.

Because there has never been another shop like it,and people still talk about it,in the way they won`t be talking about you when you die too.

About ten years, then several terrible attempts at revival such as the sad tat pictured at the end. Great in it's day tho.
